2018-19 AVCA TEAM ACADEMIC AWARD

MINNEAPOLIS -- For the second year in a row and seventh time in program history, the Augsburg University volleyball team earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association's Team Academic Award, it was announced on Monday.

Augsburg earned the honor with a team grade-point average of 3.560 in the 2018-19 school year. Fifteen of Augsburg's 18 volleyball student-athletes in 2018-19 had cumulative GPAs of 3.30 or better, and five Auggie volleyball student-athletes earned Academic All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors with cumulative GPAs of 3.50 or better, along with specific varsity playing-time requirements.

Augsburg has earned the award seven times since the 2006-07 school year, including five of the last six years. To receive the award, teams must maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative team GPA (4.0 scale) during the school year. A record total of 1,125 schools, from the high school level to NCAA Division I, received the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2018-19 school year, including 175 NCAA Division III women's programs.

Under ninth-year head coach Jane Becker, the Auggies finished 22-9 overall in 2018, qualifying for its fourth NCAA Division III national tournament, its third since 2013. Augsburg has recorded 16-plus wins in each of the last 11 seasons, with seven trips to the MIAC postseason playoffs in the span.
