CoSIDA ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT MEN'S BASKETBALL

MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg University's
Booker Coplin (SR, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) was named to the to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 6 Men's Basketball Team for the second straight year, it was announced this week.
A biopsychology major with a 3.60 grade-point average, Coplin was one of five players to be named to the district academic elite squad, made up of top NCAA Division III men's basketball student-athletes from schools in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan.
Also, Coplin was named to the
D3hoops.com Team of the Week on Monday, one of five NCAA Division III players nationally, by position, to be honored for their outstanding play during the previous week. It's the fifth time Coplin has been honored as a Team of the Week honoree by D3hoops.com, a national website covering Division III basketball.
Coplin averaged 28.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 3.0 steals per-game in two Augsburg victories during the past week, as the Auggies clinched a berth in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference postseason playoffs for the fifth straight year and 10th time in a 12-year span. He scored 37 points on 11-of-22 shooting, hitting five 3-pointers, with nine rebounds and five steals in
Augsburg's 91-78 win at Hamline last Wednesday. Last Saturday, he scored 19 points with seven rebounds, eight assists and five steals in the
Auggies' 83-72 win at Macalester.
The
2018-19 MIAC Player of the Year and
National Basketball Coaches Association Division III National Player of the Year, Coplin is having another All-American season. A
D3hoops.com Preseason All-America first-team honoree this season, Coplin continues to lead the
MIAC's overall statistics in scoring with a 23.7 points per-game average, while ranking fourth with an 8.1 rebounds per-game average. He ranks fifth among MIAC players in assists (88), steals (37) and blocked shots (26).
Playing three seasons at Augsburg (81 games), he now has 1,736 career points, fifth-most in school history. His 21.4 career points per-game average at Augsburg is third-best in school history, and his 643 career rebounds (7.9 per-game) is eighth-best in school history. He's also third in school history in career steals (152), fifth in career assists (269), eighth in career blocked shots (63) and fourth in career three-pointers (174). He has earned All-MIAC honors twice, and was named as an All-American by both
D3hoops.com (second team) and the
NABC (first team) last season.
The CoSIDA Academic All-District team is part of the
CoSIDA Academic All-America program. Top student-athletes from NCAA Division III programs in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan are eligible for inclusion on the District 6 team, one of eight Division III districts nationwide. Student-athletes must have a grade-point average above 3.30 (4.0 scale) and have outstanding athletic credentials. College sports information directors in the district vote for the teams.
This is the ninth year of the expanded Academic All-America program, with separate teams comprising NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, along with a College Division team of NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools. First-team Academic All-District members advance to the Academic All-America ballot, voted on by a committee of CoSIDA members.
The Division III Academic All-America program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the Division III Academic All-America teams program.
