Lewis named USTFCCCA Indoor All-American

USTFCCA Release

NEW ORLEANS -- On Tuesday, the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA) announced its indoor All-American honors, including Augsburg standout sprinter Jada Lewis (JR, Minneapolis, Minn./Edison HS).

The 2020 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships were halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Traditionally, All-American honors are awarded to any student-athlete who finishes in the top-eight in the final of an individual event or as a member of a top-eight relay team at the NCAA Championships. With the halting of the national championship, the USTFCCA Division III Executive Committee made the decision to recognize all student-athletes who qualified for the championship as well as all members of relay teams.

Lewis qualified for the NCAA championships for the second time in the indoor 60-meter dash. The national championships were scheduled to be held at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Earlier this season, Lewis received USTFCCA All-Central Region honors for the third year in a row in the women's 60-meter dash. It's her fourth USTFCCCA All-Central Region honor of her Auggie career; in addition to the three honors in the indoor 60, she also earned all-region honors in the outdoor 100-meter dash in 2018.

Entering the championship, Lewis had the 10th-fastest time among the 20 entries in the field in the 60-meter dash, after setting a school record in the event with a 7.67-second time at the University of Minnesota Cold Classic on Feb. 21. She won the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference indoor title for the third year in a row in the 60, finishing in 7.78 seconds, while finishing second in the 200-meter dash with an indoor personal-best 25.96-second time.

Last season, Lewis qualified for the indoor national championships for the first time in the 60, finishing 17th in the preliminaries in 7.84 seconds.

In her career, Lewis has earned seven All-MIAC honors and four All-MIAC honorable-mention selections in sprint events. Last season, in addition to winning the indoor 60 title, she placed sixth in the indoor 200 and third as part of the 4x200-meter indoor relay, then finished second at the MIAC outdoor championships in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes. In 2018, she won the indoor 60 title and placed fifth in the indoor 200, while placing third in the outdoor 100 and sixth in the outdoor 200.
