MINNEAPOLIS -- For the second straight year, Augsburg University women's track and field sprinter
Jada Lewis (JR, Minneapolis, Minn./Edison HS) will compete at the NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships in the 60-meter dash, after qualifications for this weekend's event were announced on Sunday.
Lewis will compete in the 60-meter dash preliminaries on Friday (3/13) at 4:05 p.m. Eastern time (3:05 p.m. Central). The finals will be held on Saturday (3/14) at 3:40 p.m. Eastern (2:40 p.m. Central). The national championships will be held at the
JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
In addition, Lewis received U.S. Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association All-Central Region honors for the third year in a row in the women's 60-meter dash, in awards announced on Monday morning. It's her fourth USTFCCCA All-Central Region honor of her career; in addition to the three honors in the indoor 60, she also earned all-region honors in the outdoor 100-meter dash in 2018.
She enters the national championships with the
10th-fastest time among the 20 entries in the field in the 60-meter dash, after setting a school record in the event with a
7.67-second time at the University of Minnesota Cold Classic on Feb. 21. She won the
Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference indoor title for the third year in a row in the 60, finishing in 7.78 seconds, while finishing second in the 200-meter dash with an indoor personal-best 25.96-second time.
Last season, Lewis qualified for the indoor national championships for the first time in the 60, finishing 17th in the preliminaries in 7.84 seconds.
In her career, Lewis has earned seven All-MIAC honors and four All-MIAC honorable-mention selections in sprint events. Last season, in addition to winning the indoor 60 title, she placed sixth in the indoor 200 and third as part of the 4x200-meter indoor relay, then finished second at the MIAC outdoor championships in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes. In 2018, she won the indoor 60 title and placed fifth in the indoor 200, while placing third in the outdoor 100 and sixth in the outdoor 200.
