Auggies stretch winning streak to three

MINNEAPOLIS – Behind the fourth double-double of the season from Joe Palmer (JR, Faribault, Minn./Faribault HS), the Augsburg University men's basketball team kept its perfect Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference record alive with an 83-68 win over St. Scholastica on Wednesday evening at Si Melby Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Auggies jumped out to an early 7-0 lead just over a minute into the game, but the Saints answered with a 9-2 run to tie it at nine at the 13:42 mark. The two teams went-back-and-forth for the next few minutes with the Saints grabbing a five-point lead at the 7:30 mark, their largest lead of the game. The Auggies regained the lead just over two minutes later for what proved to be the final lead change of the game. At the half, Augsburg led 41-38.
• The Augsburg defense stepped up in the second half, holding the Saints to 12-of-31 (38.7%) from the floor while knocking down 13 of their 28 shots on their way to the 15-point victory.
• The Auggies capitalized on St. Scholastica's turnovers all game as they scored 18 points off turnovers to the Saints' six. The Auggies also edged the Saints 26-20 in bench points and 38-34 in the paint.
• Palmer continued his dominant 2021 campaign, registering his fourth double-double of the season with 24 points and 10 rebounds along with two assists and two steals.
Rayquan Moore (JR, Minneapolis, Minn./DeLaSalle HS) had another great game off the bench for the Auggies, hitting four of his six shots from the floor and recording a season-high 15 points to go along with three assists and three steals.
Jack Sorenson (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) also got into double figures with 11 points on five-of-11 shooting. Conner Knoepfle (SR, Andover, Minn./Andover HS) and Matt Carik (SR, Rogers, Minn./Rogers HS) both added in nine points in the game.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Following Wednesday's contest, Palmer sits atop the MIAC overall statistics in both points and rebounds with 21.8 points per game and 9.6 rebounds per game while also ranking fourth with a field-goal percentage of 56.8. Moore also ranks top-five in the conference in shooting percentage as he has connected on 56.4% of his shots from the field this season.

FOR THE FOES
• Nick Carlson led the Saints with 20 points in the game while Jack Silgen and Isiah Hendrickson scored 16 and 12, respectively.
