Gjerde named MIAC Volleyball Athlete of Week

Kayla GjerdeMINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg University outside hitter Kayla Gjerde (JR, Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS) was named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Athlete of the Week, it was announced on Monday.

Gjerde led all Augsburg players with 16 kills and 30 digs, adding a solo block, in a pair of Auggie sweeps to open the 2021 campaign on Saturday. She hit .239 on the afternoon. Gjerde had nine kills, 16 digs and a solo block in Augsburg's MIAC sweep of Concordia-Moorhead, then had seven kills on .350 hitting, adding 14 digs and a service ace in Augsburg's nonconference sweep of Saint Mary's.

In her 61 career matches (218 sets), Gjerde has had seven or more kills 49 times, and 10 or more digs 25 times. In her career, she has 570 kills (2.61 per-set), 552 digs (2.53 per-set), 101 blocks (7 solo, 0.46 per-set), 41 assists (0.19 per-set) and 16 service aces (0.07 per-set).
