ABCA RELEASE
MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg University baseball team was recognized by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) with the Team Academic Excellence Award on Thursday. Augsburg finished the 2020-21 school year with a team cumulative grade-point average of 3.27.
In order to earn the honor, team's must post a team GPA of 3.0 or above for the entire 2019-20 academic year. Augsburg was one of more than 380 collegiate programs recognized (NCAA D-I, D-II, D-III, NAIA and junior college).
Of the team's 38 players in 2021, 22 Auggies had cumulative GPAs of 3.20 or higher, and 16 had GPAs of 3.50 or higher.
Eight Auggies earned Academic All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors in 2021 --
Jack Baumgart (JR, Willmar, Minn./Willmar HS),
Austin Jerylo (JR, Stillwater, Minn./Mahtomedi HS),
Luke Johnson (SO, Northfield, Minn./Northfield HS),
Reilly Nolin (SR, Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake HS),
Matthew Rones (JR, Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman HS),
Steven Salz (SO, Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS),
Connor Stoik (SO, Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire Memorial HS) and
Carson Tomony (SO, Madison, Wis./Madison East HS).
Under 18th year head coach
Keith Bateman, Augsburg finished 8-26 overall, 5-16 in MIAC play in 2021. Bateman reached the 300-victory plateau for his collegiate coaching career in the final game of the 2021 season.
