Three Auggies named CSC Academic All-District

2022 CSC ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT - MEN'S SOCCER

MINNEAPOLIS -- Three Augsburg University men's soccer players -- defender Herbert Carrera (JR, Chicago, Ill./St. Patrick HS), defender Drew Collins (JR, Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) and forward Tomas Menna (SO, Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids HS) -- were named to the Academic All-District Men's Soccer Team, as selected by College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA), it was announced this week.

Carrera is a marketing major with a 3.57 grade-point average, Collins is a business management major with a 3.58 GPA, and Menna is an undeclared major with a 3.75 GPA. It is the first CSC academic honor for each. Both Carrera and Collins have earned Academic All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors each of the last two seasons.

1A three-year veteran of the Augsburg men's soccer program, Carrera played in 13 games for the Auggies this season, starting four, and playing in 434 minutes of action (33.4 minutes per-game). Augsburg was 9-1-3 in games he played in this season. He has played in 39 games (1,659 minutes, 42.5 minutes per-game), with one assist in his career.

2The honor is the latest for Collins, a three-year Auggie veteran who earned All-MIAC honors this season, in addition to earning All-MIAC Honorable Mention and United Soccer Coaches All-Region third-team honors last year. Collins was a leader of an Auggie defense that allowed just 16 goals this season (0.89 team goals against-average), the third-fewest goals allowed and third-best GAA among MIAC teams in overall statistics. Augsburg outscored its opponents by a 60-16 margin this season, with its plus-2.44 scoring margin average tops among MIAC teams, and its plus-44 goal differential tied for fifth-best among NCAA Division III teams nationally. Collins had three assists this season, including two in Augsburg's 6-2 win over UW-Whitewater on Oct. 21. He played in a team-best 1,408 minutes (78.2 minutes per-game), with 11 full-90-minute game efforts. In his 55-game college career (4,326 minutes, 78.7 minutes per-game), Collins has three goals and four assists for 10 points.

3A forward, Menna played in 17 games this season, starting eight, playing in 665 minutes (39.1 minutes per-game). He scored three goals with four assists for 10 points on the campaign, scoring a goal with two assists in Augsburg's 8-1 win over Minnesota Morris on Sept. 5 and two goals in an 11-0 Auggie win at Martin Luther on Sept. 20. In his two seasons as an Auggie (27 games, 1,030 minutes played, 38.1 minutes per-game), Menna has four goals and four assists for 12 points, including one game-winning goal.

Under 19th-year head coach Greg Holker, Augsburg finished 10-3-5 overall, 3-3-4 in MIAC play in 2022. Augsburg has recorded eight or more wins in 14 of the last 17 seasons.
