Auggies score Sunday split with Saints

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg University softball team had four extra-base hits among its seven in a 7-4 first-game victory, but were limited to just three hits in its second-game, 3-0 loss to the College of Saint Scholastica in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader on Sunday at Edor Nelson Field.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• Augsburg scored twice in the first inning, as Katie Manecke (SO, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) walked and scored on a triple by Sabriya Passmore (JR, Apple Valley, Minn./Apple Valley HS), and Passmore scored on a sacrifice fly by Sara Deming (SR, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS).
• The Auggies scored three runs in the second inning. Kayla Hanson (SR, St. James, Minn./St. James HS) doubled and scored on a wild pitch, Deming singled to drive in Manecke, and Meredith Taylor (FY, Randolph, Minn./Randolph HS) drove in Passmore on a groundout.
•Two more runs came across in the fifth, as Passmore singled and scored on an RBI double by Taylor, and Torrie Rehder (FY, Goodhue, Minn./Goodhue HS) hit a single to bring home Taylor.
• St. Scholastica plated two runs in the sixth and two runs in the seventh to cut into the Augsburg lead, but pitcher Olivia O'Connor (SO, White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) was able to shut down the Saints with the bases loaded in the seventh, forcing an infield fly and an infield grounder to end the game. O'Connor ended up striking out five while walking three and allowing six hits in a complete-game effort, her 10th of the season in 11 starts.
• Passmore and Rehder had two hits each, and Deming and Taylor had two RBI each.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• Augsburg was limited to just three hits against St. Scholastica pitcher Olivia Howe -- a double by Taylor in the second inning, a single by Deming in the fourth and a single by Olivia Dynneson (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) in the seventh. Howe struck out 12 against one walk in the complete-game win.
• Auggie pitcher Saryn Sherrell (JR, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) had three strikeouts against three walks and seven hits in a complete-game effort.

FOR THE FOES
• Howe hit a run-scoring triple in the second game for St. Scholastica, and Aislind Dail had a run-scoring double.
• Emma Bolin went 2-for-3 in the first game with a run scored.

• Augsburg hosts Gustavus in a MIAC doubleheader on Wednesday (4/13) at 2:30 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field.
