Augsburg drops pair to Macalester

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Augsburg University softball team suffered a doubleheader defeat to host Macalester College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Thursday, falling 10-2 in six innings and 7-6.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• Macalester scored three runs in the first inning, then pulled away with seven runs over the final three innings to end the game via the NCAA eight-run rule.
• Augsburg scored two runs in the third inning, as Katie Manecke (SO, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) hit an RBI single to drive home Kayla Hanson (SR, St. James, Minn./St. James HS), and Sara Deming (SR, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) hit an RBI single to drive in Manecke.
• Manecke had two of Augsburg's three hits in the game. Manecke and Hanson also had stolen bases in the game.
• Pitcher Olivia O'Connor (SO, White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) struck out one against three walks and eight hits in 3.1 innings of work. Libby Moore (FY, Springville, Iowa/Springville HS) pitched 2.1 innings of relief.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• The second game was a back-and-forth affair, with Macalester claiming a walk-off win on a one-out single in the botttom of the seventh inning.
• Augsburg scored three runs in the third inning, with Sabriya Passmore (JR, Apple Valley, Minn./Apple Valley HS) hitting a two-run double to plate Manecke and Olivia Dynneson (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS), and Deming hitting a run-scoring single to drive in Passmore.
• Pinch runner Sammie Balint (JR, Golden Valley, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) scored on a groundout by Hanson in the sixth inning, with Bella Kallas (SR, Big Lake, Minn./Big Lake HS) coming home on a wild pitch. 
• Meredith Taylor (FY, Randolph, Minn./Randolph HS) hit her team-leading fourth home run of the season to lead off the seventh inning.
• Passmore went 3-for-4 for the Auggies, while Zoie Johnson (FY, Carlton, Minn./Esko HS) claiming two hits.
Brynn Hostettler (FY, Northfield, Minn./Northfield HS) pitched four innings, striking out five against eight walks and one hit. Saryn Sherrell (JR, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) pitched 2.1 innings of relief.

FOR THE FOES
• Regan Brodine and Jessica Katzin had four hits and scored two runs each for Macalester in the doubleheader, with Katzin contributing a double and three RBI.
• Kaitlyn Pistorius pitched 10.2 innings in the two games, striking out seven against six walks and 11 hits.
