Five Auggies earn MWLC postseason honors

2022 MWLC POSTSEASON AWARDS

MINNEAPOLIS -- Five Augsburg University women's lacrosse players earned honors from the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference for their performances during the 2022 season, it was announced on Thursday.

Defender Alexa Hoffman (SO, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) was named to the All-MWLC First Team, while attacker Maylynn Prokopec (SO, Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS), midfielder Malia Neumann (FY, Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS), and midfielder Mackenzie Galazen (FY, Kimball, Minn./Rocori HS) earned All-MWLC Second Team honors. Alex Davis (SR, St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park HS) was named to the All-MWLC Sportsmanship Team.

Alexa HoffmanHoffman had a solid all-around season for the Auggies as a defender, collecting 26 ground balls and 17 caused turnovers, along with 26 draw controls and an assist. She claimed career-highs of six ground balls and six caused turnovers in Augsburg's 16-7 home loss to Cornell (Iowa) on April 1, and had a career-high seven draw controls in Augsburg's 15-11 loss at Beloit (Wis.) on March 5. In her two seasons as an Auggie (27 games), Hoffman has 37 ground balls, 19 caused turnovers and 26 draw controls.

Maylynn ProkopecProkopec was one of the top scorers in the MWLC this season, finishing with 37 goals and an assist for 38 points, adding 25 ground balls, 10 caused turnovers and a draw control. Her 37 goals were third-most among MWLC players in overall statistics and eighth-most in a single season in school history, with her 38 points sixth-most among MWLC players. She tied a single-game school record with seven goals in Augsburg's 15-11 loss at Beloit (Wis.) on March 5. She had multiple-goal efforts in 11 of her 16 games this season. In her two seasons at Augsburg (25 games), she now has 46 goals and four assists for 50 points, with the 46 goals tied for 12th-most in program history and 50 points 14th-most.

Malia NeumannNeumann finished third on the team in scoring, with 14 goals and an assist for 15 points, while adding 29 ground balls, a team-high 22 caused turnovers and 43 draw controls. Her 22 caused turnovers were tied for fifth-most among MWLC players, while her 43 draw controls were tied for eighth-most. She had five multiple-goal games this season, including a three-goal effort in Augsburg's 18-10 loss to Augustana (Ill.) on March 22.

Mackenzie GalazenGalazen finished the season with 16 goals, adding a team-best 46 draw controls, along with 27 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers. Her 46 draw controls were sixth-most among MWLC players. She had four multi-goal games this season, and had 10 games with three or more draw controls, including career-bests of seven twice this season. She had two or more ground balls in seven games.

Alex DavisDavis was named to the All-MWLC Sportsmanship Team. Members are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition. Martin played in all 11 games this season as a defender, compiling four caused turnovers and 10 ground balls.

Under ninth-year coach Kathryn Knippenberg, Augsburg finished 0-16 overall and 0-5 in MWLC play in 2022.
