Bati grabs individual title at Twin Cities Twilight

MEET RESULTS

BLAINE, Minn. – Making his collegiate debut, Mohammed Bati (FY, Dodola, Ethiopia/GAP School) finished as the individual champion and led the Augsburg University men's cross country team to a third-place finish at the Twin Cities Twilight hosted by Bethel University on Friday evening.

AUGSBURG MEN
• Claiming first place in the 61-runner field by more than 20 seconds with a time of 14:32.7 in the three-mile race, Bati became the first Auggie to win a cross country race since Taybri Irving in 2016 and the first Augsburg men's cross country runner to win an individual crown since Michaele Tesema in 2012.
Sakariya Hussien (JR, Hopkins, Minn./Hopkins HS) also landed in the top 10, finishing in 10th place with a time of 16:13.1.
Bereket Wondimu (SO, Eagan, Minn./Burnsville HS) clocked a time of 16:45.7 to finish in 20th place while Max Jacobson (SO, Belle Plaine, Minn./Zurich International School) was just behind him in 21st with a time of 16:46.6.
• Also making his collegiate debut, Henry Nelson (FY, St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park HS) landed in 24th place with a time of 16:49.2. Grayson Harris (SO, Littleton, Colo./Dakota Ridge HS) rounded out Augsburg's top six in 25th place behind a time of 16:56.1.
Joseph Kubly (FY, Crystal, Minn. Robbinsdale Cooper HS) claimed the 33rd position with a time of 17:13.1. Aaron Puent (SR, La Crosse, Wis./La Crosse Aquinas HS) finished in 47th place with a time of 18:13.6 while Sam Scheuneman (SR, Lakeville, Minn./Burnsville HS) rounded out the Auggie men in 56th place with a time of 19:25.0.
• Augsburg's 76 points were tied for third fewest in the meet and good for a third-place finish thanks to a tiebreaker win over UW-River Falls (76). Host school Bethel claimed the team title with 41 points while St. Scholastica (50) finished in second place. Minnesota Morris (130) finished in fifth place while Hamline (138) took sixth.

AUGSBURG WOMEN
• The theme of strong collegiate debuts continued on the women's side as Brooklyn Conrad (FY, Ortonville, Minn./ Ortonville HS) paced the Auggies with a three-mile time of 20:47.5 to finish in 23rd place among the 61 runners.  
Mikalah Konz (FY, Bingham Lake, Minn./Windom HS) landed in 57th with a time of 25:41.6 while Tateum Park (JR, Davenport, Iowa/Davenport North HS) finished 60th with a time of 27:57.0.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg will compete at the MIAC Preview hosted by Hamline University at Highland 9-Hole Golf Course in St. Paul, Minn. on Friday, 9/9 with the men racing at 5:30 and the women following at 6:15.
