NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Claiming individual titles in five of the 10 weight classes against challenging competition, the Augsburg University men's wrestling team claimed the team title at the North Central College Invitational, held on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg claimed the tournament title in the 16-team tournament with 180.0 points, outdistancing second place North Central (Ill.) with 148.5 points. The defending NCAA Division III national champions and current top-ranked team in the National Wrestling Coaches Division III national poll, Augsburg was among five teams ranked in the top 10 competing in Saturday's meet -- joining No. 9 North Central, No. 6 Baldwin-Wallace (Ohio) (fourth), No. 10 Wabash (Ind.) (fifth) and No. 4 Wisconsin-La Crosse (sixth).
• Eighteen of the 28 Augsburg wrestlers finished in the top eight in their weight classes, compiling a 102-39 (.723) record on the day. Of the 102 wins, 65 were by bonus-point margins -- 28 pins, 20 technical falls and 17 major decisions.

Tyler Kim (SR, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS), the top-ranked 285-pounder nationally, kept his unbeaten streak alive, improving to 16-0 in dominating fashion, winning all four matches by pin -- three in under two minutes. He capped his day with a 4:51 pin of Doug Byrne of Baldwin-Wallace, the No. 4-ranked 285-pounder nationally, in the finals. Kim now has 10 pins among his 16 victories this season, and is now 120-22 in his career, with 62 pins.
• No. 1-ranked 184-pounder
Bentley Schwanebeck-Ostermann (SR, Loyal, Wis./Marshfield HS) improved to 15-1 on the season with his third tournament title of the season, with two pins and a first-period technical fall among his four victories. He finished his tournament with an 8-1 victory over No. 11-ranked Jared Voss of Coe (Iowa) in the finals. Schwanebeck-Ostermann now has 13 bonus-point wins (four pins, six technical falls, three major decisions) in his 15-win season, and is now 97-29 in his collegiate career.
• No. 4-ranked 174-pounder
Seth Goetzinger (JR, Chatfield, Minn./Chatfield HS) scored his third tournament win in a row, going 4-0 with a technical fall, second-period pin and an 18-6 major decision win over No. 12-ranked LJ Richardson of Coe in the finals. Goetzinger is now 17-2 on the season with five pins, four technical falls and two major decisions.

Cooper Willis (SO, Kansasville, Wis./Union Grove HS), ranked No. 3 in the country at 165 pounds, earned his third tournament victory with a 4-0 day, with two second-period technical falls and an 11-3 major decision over Alex Villar of North Central in the finals. Willis reached the 50-win plateau in his career, now 50-10. He is now 18-1 on the season with four pins, five technical falls and two major decisions.
• No. 3-ranked 197-pounder
Parker Venz (JR, Farmington, Minn./Farmington HS) won his second tournament of the season with another dominating performance, with three pins en route to the finals. His streak of bonus-point wins ended at 12, but he claimed a 1-0 victory over No. 9-ranked Ben Kawczynski of Wisconsin-La Crosse in the finals. Venz is now 13-1 on the season, with 10 pins and two technical falls.

Kaden Reetz (SR, Madison, Wis./Madison Memorial HS) reached the finals at 157 pounds, finishing second as part of a 5-1 day, with two technical falls and a major decision. He was one of four Auggie placewinners at 157, as
Karsen Otis (FY, Combined Locks, Wis./Kimberly HS) placed third with a 5-1 day with two technical falls, a pin and a major decision; and
Karson Casper (SO, Coleman, Wis./Coleman HS) and
Nick Alexander (FY, Kaukauna, Wis./Wrightstown HS) shared seventh place.
• Defending NCAA Division III 141-pound national champion
Sam Stuhl (SR, Ellsworth, Wis./Ellsworth HS) finished third on Saturday, going 4-1 with a technical fall and major decision.
Cole Becker (SO, Albertville, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) finished third at 149 with a 5-1 day, claiming three major decisions.
• Finishing fifth for the Auggies were
Wyatt Kaczrowski (JR, Seymour, Wis./Seymour HS) at 133,
Brandt Bombard (SO, North Branch, Minn./North Branch HS) at 184 and
Tyler Raway (SO, Wyoming, Minn./Forest Lake HS) at 197.

Gavin Hilyar (SO, Elk River, Minn./Elk River HS) finished seventh at 133, as did
Lucas Jagodzinske (SO, Sherburn, Minn./Martin County West HS) at 149 and
Jagger Schack (JR, Osseo, Minn./Osseo HS) at 285.
Austin Laudenbach (FY, Lakeville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) finished eighth at 125.
UP NEXT
• Augsburg is now idle for the holiday break, and returns to action at the NWCA Division III National Duals, to be held Jan. 5-6 at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
