MINNEAPOLIS – Augsburg University baseball players
Michael Weiss (SR, Marion, Iowa/Linn-Mar HS) and
Steven Salz (SR, Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) each received Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference postseason honors, it was announced on Monday.
Weiss secured an All-MIAC selection for the first time in his career while Salz was named an All-MIAC Honorable Mention, also a career first.
Weiss appeared in 32 games for the Auggies this season, starting all 32. He went 44-for-118 at the plate on the season for a batting average of .373, the highest mark on the team and the 12
th-best in the conference. He tallied eight doubles and six triples on the season for a slugging percentage of .542, good for second-best on the team and 15
th in the conference. Weiss' 17 runs batted in ranked fourth on the team this season.
In his career as an Auggie, Weiss appeared in 104 games and made 101 starts, collecting 51 runs batted in on 109 hits, including 14 doubles, eight triples, and two home runs. In 2022, he broke the single-season school record for stolen bases with 25.
Salz also had an outstanding season, making 30 starts and going 32-for-99 at the plate for a .323 average, third-best on the team. He batted in 25 runs during the season to lead the team and hit seven doubles and six home runs, also leading the team with a .576 slugging percentage. His six home runs this season are tied for sixth in single-season program history and ranked in a tie for fifth in the conference this season.
In his career at Augsburg, Salz made 95 appearances and 93 starts, tallying 94 hits in 308 at bats for a career average of .305. With 13 home runs in his career, Salz sits in a tie for fifth place in school history.
