FULL RESULTS | AUGSBURG RESULTS
MINNEAPOLIS -- Winning six of the 10 individual titles in the Gold division, and having 25 of 33 wrestlers finish in the top eight in their weight classes, the Augsburg University men's wrestling team opened its 2024-25 campaign with a successful day at its own Augsburg Invitational, held on Saturday at Si Melby Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Thirty-three Augsburg wrestlers competed in the invitational, with 20 Auggies placing in the top eight in the Gold division, with five titlists, and all five Auggies finishing in the top five in the First-Year division, with two titlists. Augsburg wrestlers went 95-39 with 31 pins, 13 technical falls and 19 major decisions.

Parker Venz (SR, Farmington, Minn./Farmington HS), who earned All-American honors with a seventh-place finish at 197 pounds last season, claimed his weight class with a strong effort, scoring a pair of sub-minute pins and a 27-13, major-decision win over Geoffrey Freeman of Division II Upper Iowa in the finals. Venz is ranked No. 3 nationally at 197 pounds in the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III preseason national rankings.
• Two-time 165-pound All-American
Cooper Willis (JR, Kansasville, Wis./Union Grove HS) opened his season with a victory in his weight class, going 4-0 with a pin and a pair of technical-fall victories, topping No. 14-ranked Tate Flege of Wisconsin-La Crosse 9-3 in the finals. Willis enters the season ranked No. 3 nationally at 165.
• Two-time 174-pound All-American
Seth Goetzinger (SR, Chatfield, Minn./Chatfield HS) also went 4-0 on the day to capture his weight class, with a pin and major decision en route to his title. Goetzinger is ranked No. 5 at 174 by the NWCA.

Charlie Stuhl (SR, Ellsworth, Wis./Ellsworth HS), a two-time national tournament qualifier and 2023 All-American at 149 pounds, moved up to 157 pounds and won his weight class on Saturday, going 5-0 with two technical falls and a major decision. He is ranked No. 9 at 149 pounds in the preseason national rankings.

Matthew Randolph (FY, Jordan, Minn./Jordan HS (Scott West)) made his collegiate wrestling debut with the championship at 149 pounds, going 5-0 with two pins and a technical fall, topping Division II wrestlers in both the semifinals and finals -- a 5-0 win over Isiah Mlsna of Minnesota State-Mankato and a 7-2 win over Ethen Doty of Upper Iowa. Randolph was a four-time Minnesota state high school finalist and 2024 state champion in the Class AA 145-pound class for Scott West.

Chance Suddeth (SO, Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton HS) went 4-0 with two pins and a major decision to claim the title at 133 pounds. He enters the season ranked No. 9 nationally in his weight class.
• No. 4-ranked 157-pounder and 2024 All-American
Blake Jagodzinske (SR, Sherburn, Minn./Martin County West HS) finished third in his weight class, going 4-1 with two pins and a major decision. His brother
Lucas Jagodzinske (JR, Sherburn, Minn./Martin County West HS) also captured third place at 149 pounds.

Wyatt Kaczrowski (SR, Seymour, Wis./Seymour HS), a 2024 national qualifier, shared a third-place finish at 125 pounds with teammate
Austin Laudenbach (SO, Lakeville, Minn./Apple Valley HS).

Max Borton (SO, Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca HS), a transfer from Ursinus (Pa.) ranked No. 5 at 184 pounds, shard third place with teammate Brant Bombard (JR, North Branch, Minn./North Branch HS).
• Placing fourth for the Auggies were
Cade Willis (JR, Kansasville, Wis./Union Grove HS) at 141 and
Jagger Schack (SR, Osseo, Minn./Osseo HS) at 285. Placing fifth were
Keno Vanier (JR, Edina, Minn./Richfield HS) at 125,
Karsen Otis (SO, Combined Locks, Wis./Kimberly HS) at 157 and
Nick Alexander (SO, Kaukauna, Wis./Wrightstown HS) at 174. Eighth-place finishers for the Auggies were
Gavin Hilyar (JR, Elk River, Minn./Elk River HS) and
Austin Gabbert (SR, Lester Prairie, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) at 141, and
Tyler Raway (JR, Wyoming, Minn./Forest Lake HS) at 285.

Brady Swenson (FY, Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS) and
Ethan Winkelman (FY, Hudson, Wis./Hudson HS) made their collegiate debuts with titles at 157 and 197 pounds, respectively, in the First-Year division. Swenson went 4-0 with two pins and two major decisions, and Winkelman won all three of his bouts by pin.

Apollo Ashby (FY, Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS) finished second in the First-Year division at 165, while
Ethan Aird (FY, Darlington, Wis./Darlington HS) finished fourth at 125 and
Cole Sarbacker (FY, Edgerton, Wis./Stoughton HS) finished fifth at 149.
