STEVENS POINT, Wis. -- The Augsburg University women's wrestlng team opened its 2024-25 campaign with eight wrestlers seeing action at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Pointer Open on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Nina Makem (SR, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS), the No. 7-ranked 138-pounder in the National Wrestling Coaches Association preseason national rankings for NCAA-affiliated schools, opened the season at 160 pounds, where she earned the consolation title (seventh place). She opened with a 1:27 pin loss to No. 2-ranked 160-pounder Alexandra Hofrichter of Dubuque (Iowa), but rallied back with four victories, including a 35-second pin and two first-period technical falls.
• Augsburg's seven other competitors on Saturday were all first-year wrestlers making their collegiate debuts. Brantajia Loggins (FY, St. Paul, Minn./Humboldt HS) went 2-2 with two first-period pins in her debut at 207 pounds. 
• Three other Auggies also gained their first collegiate wins -- Amelia Hermanson (FY, Golden Valley, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) at 103, Gisele Gallegos (FY, South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul HS) with a technical fall at 110, and Katie Whelan (FY, Harmony, MInn./Fillmore Central HS) at 180.
