Auggies cap Iowa trip with sweep of Simpson

INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Augsburg University baseball team capped its weekend trip to Iowa with a nonconference doubleheader sweep at Simpson College on Sunday, winning 9-7 and 4-1.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• Leadoff hitter Stanley Regguinti (JR, St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park HS) had a strong first game at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a double, triple and two runs scored. He led off the game with a triple and scored in the first inning, and hit an RBI double in the fifth inning to bring home Davis Wick (SO, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo HS). Wick went 2-for-4 at the plate, scoring two runs.
• The Auggies built a 9-2 lead in the first five innings of the seven-inning game, and held off a five-run Simpson comeback in the fifth and sixth innings.
Tyson LaPoint (SO, Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake HS) went 3-for-4 in the first game, hitting a two-run double in the top of the first inning and scoring a run.
Jorda Sivoravong (FY, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo HS) went 2-for-3 in the game, connecting on an RBI single in the first and a two-run single in the third. He also scored a run.
Austin Lang (JR, Anoka, Minn./Anoka HS) earned the win on the mound, striking out one against one walk and three runs allowed over five innings. Caleb Tays (SO, Blaine, Minn./Spring Lake Park HS) and Vincent Rupp (JR, Salt Lake City, Utah, Skyline hs0 pitched in relief, with Rupp earning the save.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• Shut out and limited to just two hits during the first eight innings of the nine-inning second game, Augsburg used a four-run ninth inning to claim the come-from-behind win.
• The Auggies loaded the bases on a Sivoravong single, fielding error, sacrifice bunt and an intentional walk. Lang hit an infield single to plate Sivoravong, Andruw Vela (SO, St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park HS) scored on a fielder's choice by Drew Jenkins (JR, Farmington, Minn./Randolph HS), and Elijah Stewart (FY, Hopkins, Minn./Hopkins HS) capped the comeback with a two-out double to right-center, bringing home Jenkins and Aaron Jones (SO, Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista HS).
• Relief pitcher Sean Littman (SR, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) gained the victory with three innings of relief, striking out four against one walk and just one hit. Starter Manny Weiss (JR, Marion, Iowa/Linn-Mar HS) struck out six against no walks and six hits in the opening six innings.

FOR THE FOES
• Nate Cagle went 3-for-4 with a double and four RBI for Simpson in the first game.
• Bryson Gibson had two hits in the second game.
