MINNEAPOLIS -- A set of solid pitching efforts, combined with some timely hitting, gave the Augsburg University baseball team a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep of Carleton College on Wednesday, winning 9-4 and 12-2 (7 innings).

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS

Manny Weiss (JR, Marion, Iowa/Linn-Mar HS) and
Caleb Tays (SO, Blaine, Minn./Spring Lake Park HS) combined for the first-game victory, with Weiss striking out six against two walks and seven hits in 4.1 innings, and Tays pitching 2.2 innings of scoreless relief, striking out three against no walks and two hits.
• The Auggies opened the game with a four-run first inning, with
Jorda Sivoravong (FY, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo HS) scoring on a double by
Josh Udelhofen (SR, Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig HS),
Andruw Vela (SO, St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park HS) scoring on a sacrifice fly by
Elijah Stewart (FY, Hopkins, Minn./Hopkins HS), and Udelhofen and
Drew Jenkins (JR, Farmington, Minn./Randolph HS) coming home on a two-run double by
Nick Hubbard (SR, Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS).
• Augsburg sent nine batters to the plate and scored five runs in the bottom of the third. Hubbard connected on a two-run triple down the left field line to bring home Stewart and Jenkins, and he came home on an infield groundout by
Keegan O'Connor (SR, Roselle, Ill./James B. Conant HS). Vela then hit a two-run single to bring home
Stanley Regguinti (JR, St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park HS) and
Adam Marshall (SR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS).
• Hubbard went 3-for-3 at the plate with two doubles and a triple, while Udelhofen had two hits in the game.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• Carleton scored two runs in the top of the first inning, but after that, it was all Augsburg in the second game, as the Auggies scored 12 runs on 13 hits off of five Carleton pitchers. The game ended in the seventh inning via the 10-run rule.
• Regguinti led off the first inning with a walk, moved to third on a groundout and stolen base, and scored on an RBI single by Vela.
• Augsburg sent nine batters to the plate and scored five runs in the third inning. Sivoravong scored after Vela singled and advanced to third on a two-base error, and Vela scored on an RBI groundout by Udelhofen. With two outs and the bases loaded, Marshall cleared the bases with a three-run double, driving in Jenkins, Hubbard and O'Connor.
• Stewart plated Udelhofen on a single in the fourth. Three runs came across in the fifth, as Udelhofen plated Sivoravong on an RBI single, and Stewart hit a two-run triple to drive home Jenkins and Udelhofen.
• A Vela double drove in
Jimmy Hemera (SR, Christchurch, New Zealand/Hillmorton HS) in the sixth, and a Hemera single in the seventh plated Jenkins with the game-ending run.
• Two more strong pitching performances helped the Auggies in the second game. Starter
Jake Pittelkow (JR, Roseville, Minn./Simley HS) struck out six against four walks and two hits in five innings of work, and
Myer Schmitz (SR, Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) had a strikeout in two innings of scoreless relief.
• Vela went 3-for-5, and Jenkins went 4-for-4 for the Auggies in the second game.
FOR THE FOES
• Aaron Rice hit a double and triple, scoring a run and driving in a run, in the first game for Carleton.
• Sam Zacks went 2-for-4 with a run scored in the second game.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Augsburg honored its nine seniors during Wednesday's doubleheader -- Hemera, Hubbard, Marshall, O'Connor, Schmitz, Udelhofen,
Dylan Adams (SR, Windermere, Fla./Windermere Preparatory School),
Ben Kittleson (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS) and
Sean Littmann (SR, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS).
