MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg University baseball team used timely pitching and a 13-hit attack to claim a 7-2 victory over Saint Mary's University in the opener of a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader on Thursday, but the Cardinals used a seven-run seventh inning to take the second game, 12-7.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• Augsburg fell behind early on a two-run homer in the top of the first inning, but scored seven unanswered runs after that, and took advantage of a solid pitching effort by Auggie starter
Jake Pittelkow (JR, Roseville, Minn./Simley HS), who struck out seven against two walks and five hits. Of his 84 pitches, 54 were strikes.
Caleb Tays (SO, Blaine, Minn./Spring Lake Park HS) followed with 1.1 innings of scoreless relief, allowing just one hit and one walk.

Stanley Regguinti (JR, St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park HS) tied the game for the Auggies with a two-run single in the second inning.
Andruw Vela (SO, St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park HS) led off the third inning with a single, moved to third base on a stolen base and a single, and scored on a sacrifice bunt by
Josh Udelhofen (SR, Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig HS).
• Three runs came across in the fifth inning for Augsburg, as Vela led off the inning with a double and scored on a double by
Aaron Jones (SO, Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista HS).
Drew Jenkins (JR, Farmington, Minn./Randolph HS) then hit a two-run double to plate Jones and
Elijah Stewart (FY, Hopkins, Minn./Hopkins HS).
• Regguinti led off the sixth inning with a double and scored on a single by
Adam Marshall (SR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS).
• Regguinti went 3-for-4 in the first game, while Vela, Marshall and Udelhofen had two hits.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• Augsburg built a 7-3 lead after six innings in the second game, but Saint Mary's sent 11 batters to the plate and scored seven runs on five hits in the top of the seventh inning, and added two more runs in the top of the ninth, to earn the split of the doubleheader.
• A two-run single by
Drew Jenkins in the second inning put the Auggies on the scoreboard, and
Adam Marshall (SR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) hit a sacrifice fly to plate
Jorda Sivoravong (FY, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo HS) in the bottom of the third.
• Augsburg scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, sending eight batters to the plate. Jones drove in a run on a sacrifice fly, Stewart scored on an error, and Regguinti hit a two-run single.
Stewart and
Nick Hubbard (SR, Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) had two hits each in the second game for the Auggies.
