Derrin LamkerMINNEAPOLIS -- Derrin Lamker '97, an Augsburg University Athletic Hall of Famer who led the Auggie football team for the past five seasons, has announced his resignation to return to high school coaching at Osseo (Minn.) High School.

Lamker compiled a 21-20 record from 2020-24, a .512 winning percentage that is best among the 15 coaches in the 93-season history of the Augsburg football program (1926-34, 1939-42, 1945-present). The Auggies recorded a 15-20 record in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play in Lamker's tenure. Augsburg finished 4-6 overall, 3-5 in MIAC play in 2024, and finished 6-4 overall in both 2022 and 2023.

"I want to thank all the alumni, current players and former players for making my six years at Augsburg some of the best of my life," Lamker said. "I want to thank (Athletic Director) Jeff Swenson for the opportunity and the mentorship. I truly wish Augsburg the best moving forward."

Under Lamker's leadership, Augsburg earned 17 All-MIAC and eight All-MIAC Honorable Mention selections, along with three D3Football.com All-Region selections -- wide receiver Dominic Smith in 2021, and kick returner Isaiah Thompson and offensive lineman Andrew Hahn in 2023.

Lamker earned honors from the Augsburg Athletic Hall of Fame twice in the past decade, receiving the school's Excellence in Coaching Award in 2016 and being named to the Hall of Fame for his playing accomplishments in 2018.

"We thank Derrin Lamker for his passion, service and devotion to his alma mater, and the positive impact he's had for all his student-athletes that he has coached," Swenson said.

A two-time All-MIAC honoree as a three-year starting quarterback for the Auggie football team, Lamker led the Auggies to the 1997 MIAC championship and a second-round NCAA Division III national tournament appearance -- the second conference title and first NCAA tournament appearance in Augsburg football history. He was named MIAC Most Valuable Player in 1997, in addition to being a finalist for the Gagliardi Trophy, given to the top student-athlete in NCAA Division III football. He was also named to the Football Gazette All-West Region team.

He was also a three-year starter on the Augsburg men's basketball team and played two seasons of baseball for the Auggies.

Before coming to Augsburg in 2020, Lamker was a successful high school football coach (94-50 record) in the Twin Cities, guiding Osseo High School to the Minnesota Class 6A state title in 2015 and a 74-39 coaching record (2005-2015). He served three seasons (2017-19) as head coach at Edina High School, leading the Hornets to a 20-11 record, reaching the Minnesota Class 6A state tournament quarterfinals in 2017. He was named Minnesota Class 6A State Coach of the Year at Osseo in 2015.
