CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The No. 2/2-ranked Augsburg University men's wrestling team finished in third place at the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III National Duals, splitting its matches on Saturday at the UNI-Dome.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg, ranked No. 2 in the latest NWCA Division III tournament and dual-meet national polls, suffered a 23-11 defeat in the semifinals to No. 6/6-ranked Roanoke (Va.). Roanoke claimed its first-ever NWCA National Duals title with a 19-16 victory over top-ranked Wartburg (Iowa) in the finals. The Auggies finished third with a 27-17 victory over No. 4/4-ranked College of New Jersey.

Cooper Willis (SR, Kansasville, Wis./Union Grove HS) and No. 4-ranked 184-pounder
Brandt Bombard (SR, North Branch, Minn./North Branch HS) each finished 4-0 on the weekend, as the duo won both of their matches on Saturday. Willis scored an 8-0 major-decision and 15-0 technical fall to improve to 21-2 on the season, while Bombard scored two wins by major decision on Saturday to improve to 21-1.
• No. 3-ranked 149-pounder
Matthew Randolph (SO, Jordan, Minn./Jordan HS (Scott West)) claimed a 4-3 overtime win over No. 5-ranked Taylor Smith of Roanoke, improving to 18-2 on the season.
• Against The College of New Jersey, the Auggies fell behind 14-0 after the first three bouts, then won six of the final seven to claim the 27-17 victory. The Auggies claimed two major decisions, two technical falls and a pin in the victory.
• No. 5-ranked 285-pounder
Tyler Raway (SR, Wyoming, Minn./Forest Lake HS) improved to 17-3 with a 5:00 pin.
Cole Dummer (FY, Union Grove, Wis./Union Grove HS) claimed an 18-2, third-period technical fall to move to 18-2 on the season at 157, and 149-pounder
Lucas Jagodzinske (SR, Sherburn, Minn./Martin County West HS) scored a 10-0 major decision to move to 17-4.
• At 197, No. 8-ranked Auggie
Ethan Winkelman (SO, Hudson, Wis./Hudson HS) claimed a 5-1 victory over TCNJ's No. 2-ranked D.J. Henry, moving to 19-2 on the season.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Augsburg is now 75-18 in NWCA Division III National Duals competition since 2002. Augsburg also appeared in five NWCA National Duals competitions prior to the 2002 season, when the defending Division III national champion was invited to compete with Division I squads. Augsburg is now 80-27 all-time in NWCA National Duals competition.
• In its 23 appearances in the NWCA Division III National Duals since the meet was established in 2002 (No meet was held in 2021, and Augsburg did not compete in 2022), the Auggies have 19 top-three finishes -- nine championships, seven runner-up finishes and three third-place finishes.
