Auggies advance to National Duals semifinals

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- For the eighth straight year, the No. 2/2-ranked Augsburg University men's wrestling team advanced to the semifinals of the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III National Duals, claiming a pair of victories on Friday afternoon at the UNI-Dome.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg, ranked No. 2 in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III tournament and dual-meet national polls, scored a 34-15 victory over No. 19/-- Wabash (Ind.) in the round of 16, then dispatched No. 5/7 North Central (Ill.) 32-12 in the quarterfinals. The Auggies dropped the first two bouts, then won six of the last eight bouts against Wabash, then scored seven straight victories after dropping the first three bouts against North Central.
• Three Auggies scored pins in both of their matches on Friday -- 149-pounder Lucas Jagodzinske (SR, Sherburn, Minn./Martin County West HS), No. 2-ranked 165-pounder Cooper Willis (SR, Kansasville, Wis./Union Grove HS) and No. 8-ranked Auggie Ethan Winkelman (SO, Hudson, Wis./Hudson HS). Jagodzinske had a pair of second-period pins to improve to 16-4 on the season, while Willis, now 19-2, had pins of 1:26 and 2:28. Winkelman had pins of 2:16 and 2:43 to improve to 18-1.
• No. 4-ranked 184-pounder Brandt Bombard (SR, North Branch, Minn./North Branch HS) improved to 19-1 on the season with a third-period technical fall in the opener and an 11-0 major decision in the quarterfinals.
Cade Willis (SR, Kansasville, Wis./Union Grove HS) had a second-period pin, and Cole Dummer (FY, Union Grove, Wis./Union Grove HS) had a third-period technical fall against Wabash. No. 5-ranked 157-pounder Karsen Otis (JR, Combined Locks, Minn./Kimberly HS) claimed a 14-3 major decision against North Central.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Winners of nine NWCA Division III National Duals titles, Augsburg is now 74-17 in NWCA Division III National Duals competition since 2002. Augsburg also appeared in five NWCA National Duals competitions prior to the 2002 season, when the defending Division III national champion was invited to compete with Division I squads. Augsburg is now 79-26 all-time in NWCA National Duals competition. 
• Against opponents from Divisions II and III, Augsburg is now 393-59-1 in dual meets since the 1989-90 season. Augsburg has lost just 55 matches to non-Division I opponents since the 1995-96 season.
• Against strictly NCAA Division III opponents, Augsburg is 377-57-1 since the 1979-80 season. Since 1989-90, Augsburg is 302-47-1 against Division III opponents.
