NORTHFIELD, Minn. (4/29/00) -- Fauna Smith (Jr., Willits, Calif.) threw a complete-game one-hit shutout to help carry Carleton to two softball wins over Augsburg here Saturday in MIAC action. Carleton captured the opener 4-0, and took the second game 9-6 to climb to .500 in conference play for the season.
Carleton (16-10 overall, 7-7 MIAC) scored two runs in both the second and third inning, behind a triple and double from Renée Willette (So., Minneapolis, Minn.). Cecily Schrader (Fr., Edina, Minn.) also went 3-for-3 for the game. Smith dominated on the mound, striking out 11 Auggies en route to the shutout.
A three-run fourth inning helped Carleton pull out the second game as well. Claire Lasher (Sr., Austin, Texas) tripled in that inning, and Cara Jones (Fr., Minneapolis, Minn.) had one of her three hits on the afternoon, while Schrader added a double. Smith picked up the win in relief, allowing three runs and striking out six to move to 12-7 on the year.

Tully Kaiser (Fr., Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn HS) crept closer to the Minnesota all-divisions collegiate stolen base record, with her 102nd career swipe in game 1. The current record, held by Jessica Boumeester of St. Thomas, stands at 104.
Carleton now hosts St. Benedict Sunday in a 1 p.m. doubleheader. Augsburg hosts St. Thomas on Sunday at 6 p.m.
