ST. PETER, Minn. (4/26/01) -- Hope Grover and Molly Biehn pitched complete-game victories to lead host Gustavus Adolphus College to a sweep of Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference softball doubleheader Thursday evening.

With the wins, 4-1 and 7-2, Gustavus improved to 19-7 overall and 13-3 in MIAC play. Augsburg dropped to 11-17 overall and 4-10 in league play.

Grover struck out 10 Auggies in pitching a seven-hit victory in the first game, forcing the Auggies to strand eight runners and allowing only one unearned run. Meanwhile, Biehn struck out eight Auggies and allowed just seven hits in the second-game win.

Julie Langenfeld opened the first game with a three-run home run, providing all the runs the Gusties would need in the victory. They added a single run in the fifth, when pinch-hitter Ingrid Olson scored on a passed ball. Meghan Shepherd went 2-for-3 in the game.

Augsburg's lone run came in the third inning, when Kristin Lideen (Fr., Champlin, Minn./Champlin-Park HS) scored on a fielding error after Brenda Selander (Sr., Oakdale, Minn./Tartan HS) connected on a base hit. Selander ended up going 3-for-4 to lead the Auggies.

Gustavus took advantage of eight hits, two Augsburg errors, three wild pitches and two passed balls to pick up the second-game win. After Augsburg took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Jennie LaManna (Jr., South St. Paul, Minn.) single to drive in Lideen, the Gusties scored three runs in the third. Jamie Regenscheid singled in a run, and two more came in on a walk, wild pitch and two passed balls.

The Auggies scored their other run in the fourth, when Melissa Lee (Fr., Cannon Falls, Minn./Randolph HS) brought LaManna home on a single. But the Gusties scored four runs over the next three innings, as two runs came in on two wild pitches in the fourth, and two more runs came in on a fielding error in the sixth.

Christina Diller went 2-for-3 to lead the Gusties, while Regenscheid went 2-for-2 with three runs scored. Lideen went 3-for-3 with a run scored for the Auggies, while LaManna went 2-for-3.

Both teams return to MIAC play with doubleheaders on Saturday (4/28) at 1 p.m., Augsburg hosting Carleton and Gustavus playing at Bethel.
