Kristen Lideen (Jr., Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) went 5-for-8 at the plate with two RBI and a run scored in the two games, but Augsburg College opened its 2003 softball season with two losses at the Rebel Spring Games on Sunday, falling 4-3 to Allegheny College (Pa.) and 5-0 to Carthage College (Wis.).
Augsburg took at 3-0 lead in the first two innings against Allegheny, on two RBI by Lideen and a run-scoring double by
Jennie LaManna (Sr., South St. Paul, Minn.). However, the Auggies allowed three Allegheny runs in the bottom of the third inning, and Allegheny's Jessica Monti had the game-winning hit with two runners on and two outs in the bottom of the seventh.
Sam Kronschnabel (Sr., St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) had two hits for the Auggies, who had eight hits in the game.
Shelley Harris (Fr., Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS) made her collegiate pitching debut in the first game, striking out two while walking two and allowing seven hits.
In the second game, Carthage spread out five hits and five walks off of Auggie starter
Rebecca Peters (Jr., Portage, Wis.), scoring four runs in the final three innings. Meanwhile, Augsburg failed to convert its eight hits, stranding 10 runners on base in the game.
Lideen went 2-for-4 with a double to lead the Auggies, while
Melissa Lee (Jr., Cannon Falls, Minn./Randolph HS) went 3-for-3. Peters had two strikeouts for the Auggies.
Augsburg returns to action in the Rebel Spring Games on Monday (3/17), facing Geneva (Pa.) at 8:50 a.m. and Hope (Mich.) at 10:40 a.m.
