ST. PAUL, Minn. (4/10/03) -- The University of St. Thomas softball team ran its winning streak to nine with Thursday's 5-1 and 2-0 victories over visiting Augsburg College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play at the Tommies' field.
St. Thomas (17-3 overall, 6-0 MIAC) received a complete-game pitching win from senior Stacy Tamble (7 IP, 0 ER, 2H, 0W, 6K) in game one. In game two, senior Andrea Sweeney pitched the final four innings and allowed three hits and no walks with four strikeouts. Sweeney and starter Janet Nagel combined on a six-hit shutout, although the Auggies stranded nine.
Nikki Conway scored both runs in game two. She was hit by pitch in the first, stole second and scored on an error. In the third, she hit a solo homer. Both teams stranded nine runners in game two.
Augsburg was paced in the second game by
Kristen Lideen (Jr., Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) who went 4-for-4 at the plate. She had two doubles in the contest, giving her 16 on the season.
Augsburg returns to action on Saturday (4/12), hosting St. Mary's at 1 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field.
