Women's Swimming 12/11/04 -- Wisconsin-River Falls 105, Augsburg 73

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (12/11/04) -- Setting school records in four events, the Augsburg College women's swimming team claimed its best dual-meet finish in the two-year history of the program, a 105-73 loss to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls on Saturday afternoon at the River Falls High School pool.

Kasi Clauson (So., Kansas, Okla./Cookson Hills Christian HS) set new school records in winning the 100-yard butterfly (1:06.25) and finishing second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:24.67), while Dani Matzke (Fr., Faribault, Minn.) set a new school mark in winning the 500-yard freestyle (6:02.17) and a personal best in placing second in the 50-yard freestyle (27.21 seconds).

Clauson's butterfly time broke her old school mark of 1:06.70, set last season, while her 200 IM time broke her old mark of 2:30.94, set last year. Matzke's 500 freestyle mark broke Clauson's old mark of 6:08.44, set last year.

In addition, the 200-yard medley relay team of Leah Haan (Fr., Burnsville, Minn./Minnehaha Academy HS), Trudy Pommerening (Fr., Bemidji, Minn.), Clauson and Matzke also set a school record in placing second in 2:07.67, cutting nearly four seconds off the old mark of 2:11.37.

Augsburg claimed 10 personal bests, including the school records, in Saturday's meet.

Pommerening swam to a personal-best 2:26.65 in the 200-yard freestyle. Joann Anderson (Jr., Eagan, Minn./Burnsville HS) claimed a personal-best 30:06 in the 50-yard freestyle, as did Lindsey Persons (So., Wayzata, Minn./Orono HS) with a 30.41 time. Jennifer Winter (Fr., Plymouth, Minn./Osseo HS) claimed a personal-best 1:30.56 in the 100-yard breaststroke, and Maria Schmidt (Fr., Elk River, Minn.) swam a personal-best 13:51.09 in the 1,000-yard freestyle.

Augsburg returns to action after the holiday break with a quadrangular meet at Hamline University, competing against the Pipers, St. Thomas and St. Mary's, on Friday, Jan. 14 at 6 p.m.
