MINNEAPOLIS (4/12/04) -- Augsburg College's Shelley Harris (So., Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS) pitched a complete-game victory and hit the game-winning, two-run single in the first game, while Concordia College-Moorhead's Lisa Kott (Fr., Bozeman, Mont.) went 4-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and pitched a complete-game victory in the second game, as the teams split a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference softball doubleheader on Monday afternoon at Augsburg's Edor Nelson Field.

Augsburg won the first game 4-3, while Concordia-Moorhead won the second game 6-5. Both teams are now 3-7 in MIAC play; Augsburg is 7-17 overall, while Concordia is 7-15 overall.

All the scoring in the first game took place in the third inning. With two outs in the top of the frame, Concordia's Mandy Pearson (Jr., Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins HS) hit a two-run double, and Shantelle Nogowski (Fr., Twin Valley, Minn./Norman County East HS) hit a run-scoring double to put the Cobbers up 3-0.

But in the bottom of the inning, Augsburg sent seven batters to the plate and scored four runs. A single by Becky Ruckel (Jr., Andover, Minn./Anoka HS) plated a run, and Melissa Lee (Sr., Cannon Falls, Minn./Randolph HS) hit a long single to drive in another run, advancing to second on the throw. With two aboard, Harris hit a deep ground ball that just got past the Concordia shortstop, and both Ruckel and Lee were able to score to put the Auggies ahead.

Harris allowed just one Concordia runner after that, a leadoff walk in the fourth inning. With a double play to end the fourth, Harris was able to retire the final 11 Concordia batters in a row to score the pitching victory. Harris struck out four while walking just one and allowing four hits.

Gretta Stritesky (Jr., Ogilvie, Minn.) struck out three in a complete-game pitching effort for Concordia in the first game.

Augsburg took the early lead in the second game, as Lisa Uehling (Fr., Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) hit a two-run single in the first inning. Concordia's Stephanie Gemar (Sr., Felton, Minn./Shanley HS) scored on a wild pitch in the third inning.

The Cobbers added two more runs in the fifth inning, on a two-run double by Kott, but Augsburg tied the game on a run-scoring double by Harris in the bottom of the frame. Each team scored in the sixth inning, as Gemar hit a run-scoring single for the Cobbers and Augsburg's Katie Tweeten (Fr., Spring Grove, Minn.) doubled and scored on a wild pitch.

In the top of the seventh, Kott and Nogowski reached base on singles, and both scored on a double by Jolene Rebertus (Jr., Chanhassen, Minn./Chaska HS). Augsburg's Ruckel reached base on a single in the bottom of the inning, moved to third on two passed balls and scored on an RBI groundout by Harris. A walk, single and passed ball put Auggie runners on second and third with two outs, but a groundout ended the game.

Kott pitched the complete-game winning, allowing 10 hits and a walk while striking out one to earn her first collegiate pitching victory for Concordia. Harris struck out five while walking four and allowing 12 hits.

Both teams return to MIAC play with doubleheaders on Thursday (4/15) at 4 p.m., with Augsburg playing at St. Olaf and Concordia hosting St. Catherine.
