NORTHFIELD, Minn. (4/15/04) -- Augsburg College's
Shelley Harris (So., Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS) allowed just nine hits and struck out seven in two complete games, as Augsburg and St. Olaf College split a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference softball doubleheader on Thursday afternoon at St. Olaf's Mabel Shirley Field.
Augsburg won the first game 2-1, while St. Olaf won the second game 3-1. Both teams are now 4-8 in MIAC play; Augsburg is 8-18 overall, while St. Olaf is 5-16 overall.
St. Olaf took the lead in the first game, as Jenna Green singled and scored on a fielder's choice by Lindsay Weier in the fifth inning. Augsburg took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Melissa Lee (Sr., Cannon Falls, Minn./Randolph HS) singled and advanced to second on an error, then scored on a single by
Lisa Uehling (Fr., Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS). Uehling then scored on a two-out double by
Kati Tweeten (Fr., Spring Grove, Minn.) to give the Auggies the lead for good.
Audra Thimmesch-Gill (So.) led the Auggies in the first game, going 2-for-3, as did Meghan Urbanski of St. Olaf.
St. Olaf scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning in the second game to take the lead to stay. Jenna Arotta doubled and scored on a single by Sarah Herby. A bases-loaded walk brought in another run, and a single by Urbanski plated another run.
Augsburg scored in the top of the seventh, as
Lindsay Ruliffson (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) drove in Uehling on a groundout. However, the Auggies stranded two runners on base in the seventh to end the game.
Uehling went 2-for-2 to lead the Auggies.
Both teams return to MIAC play with doubleheaders on Saturday (4/17) at 1 p.m., with Augsburg hosting St. Catherine at Edor Nelson Field, and St. Olaf hosting St. Mary's.
