ST. PAUL, Minn. (4/3/04) -- Sophomore Nikki Conway had two solo homers and went 5-for-7 on the day to lead the University of St. Thomas softball team to a 6-3, 4-0 doubleheader sweep of visiting Augsburg College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Saturday on the Tommies' field.
In game two, Conway homered twice and junior Kristi Huegel also had a solo homer to back freshman Carrie Embree's three-hit shutout. Embree walked two and struck out nine for the Tommies (18-4 overall, 4-0 MIAC).
In game one, Kristin Trapp's bases-loaded single keyed a four-run fifth inning that built a 6-1 lead. Freshman Emily Waage got the complete-game win as she allowed three runs, six hits and no walks with two strikeouts.
On the day, Auggie leadoff hitter
Kristen Lideen (Sr., Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) went 3-for-7. Pitcher
Shelley Harris (So., Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS) went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs in the opener for the Auggies (6-12 overall, 2-2 MIAC).
Harris pitched both games and took both losses as the Tommies had 10 hits in game one and nine in game two.
Augsburg has two straight MIAC twinbills at home, starting on Monday (4/5) with a 5 p.m. doubleheader against Bethel. On Wednesday (4/7), Augsburg hosts Carleton, also at 5 p.m. St. Thomas plays a Sunday (4/4) 1 p.m. doubleheader at Carleton and hosts St. Catherine Wednesday at 4 p.m.
