Women's Swimming 12/17/05 -- Wisconsin-River Falls 100, Augsburg 62
ST. PAUL, Minn. (12/17/05) --
Melissa Warfield (Fr., Rogers, Minn./Buffalo HS) set two school records and won an individual event, while teammates
Liz Wiggen (Fr., Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) and
Tyrrell Dupey (Fr., Urbandale, Iowa/West Des Moines Dowling HS) also won events for Augsburg College, as the Auggie women's swimming team competed in a "home" dual meet with the University of Wisconsin-River Falls on Saturday afternoon at the College of St. Catherine's Butler Center pool.
Warfield won the 100-yard freestyle in 59.79 seconds, setting a new school record in the event for the third time this season and eclipsing the 1-minute mark for the first time. She also set a school record in the 200-yard freestyle with a 2:12.69, second-place effort, eclipsing the old school mark by nearly three seconds.
Wisconsin-River Falls won the dual meet by a 100-62 score, winning six individual events and a relay, while Augsburg won one relay and three individual events.
Wiggen set a new school record in finishing second in the 1,000-yard freestyle, finishing in 12:49.83, cutting the old school record of 13:51.09 by over a full minute. She also won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:10.52, just seven-hundredths of a second off the school record of 1:10.45.
Dupey won the 500-yard freestyle in 6:13.27.
Warfield, Wiggen and Dupey were joined by
Sam Sedlak (Fr., Schaumburg, Ill.) in setting a new school record in winning the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:52.91, breaking the old school record by four seconds.
Augsburg returns to action after the holiday break on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 11 a.m., competing at the College of St. Catherine Invitational at the Butler Center pool.
