MINNEAPOLIS (4/17/05) -- Maggie Roscher (Jr., Mendota Heights, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) went 3-for-4 with two runs scored for St. Olaf College in the first game, while Kati Tweeten (So., Spring Grove, Minn.) struck out six in a complete-game pitching effort in the second game for Augsburg College, as the teams split a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference softball doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Augsburg's Edor Nelson Field.

St. Olaf scored five runs in the final two innings to pull away to a 6-0 first-game victory, while Augsburg claimed a 4-3 win in the second game. Augsburg is now 6-17 overall, 3-9 in MIAC play; St. Olaf is now 12-14 overall, 5-7 in the MIAC. The games were rescheduled after a rainout on Saturday afternoon.

Augsburg scored all four of its runs in the second game in the third inning, sending eight batters to the plate. The big hit in the frame was a three-run triple by Ashley Westerman (Fr., Bemidji, Minn.), her first collegiate triple. She later scored on a single by Jackie Bohmbach (So., Hudson, Wis.), which proved to be the eventual game-winning run. Jolene Ross (Fr., Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS) had a hit and scored in the inning, going 2-for-3 at the plate in the game.

St. Olaf scored all its runs in the fourth inning, and the three runs were all unearned against Augsburg pitcher Tweeten. With the bases loaded, St. Olaf's Chelsey Rodd (Jr., Cloquet, Minn.) hit a grounder to shortstop, which was fielded successfully to the plate to get the go-ahead runner. But a throw to first for a double-play attempt sailed wide of the bag, which allowed two runs to score. Rose Keimig (Jr., Princeton, Minn.) then drove in Rodd on a single to left field to cut the lead to 4-3.

St. Olaf had a runner advance to third in the sixth inning with one out, but an infield pop-out and strikeout ended the threat. Another runner was cut down at second base on a steal attempt in the seventh.

Tweeten, making her seventh start of the season and first since April 9, struck out six while walking just two and allowing five hits to score the win. Laura Torgerson (Jr., Red Wing, Minn.) took the loss for the Oles, striking out three while waking one and allowing five hits.

St. Olaf took a 1-0 lead in the third inning, then pulled away with five runs in the final two innings to clinch the first-game victory. Roscher singled and eventually scored on a throwing error in the third inning. Two runs came across in the sixth inning on a two-run single by Jenna Arotta (Jr., Duluth, Minn./East HS).

The Oles scored three runs in the seventh, as Emily Hennig (Fr., St. Paul, Minn.) singled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Rodd. Another run came across after an error on a fly ball, and Kate Schulz (Jr., Chillicothe, Ohio) drove in a run on a single.

Bekki Hagen (Jr., Northfield, Minn.) struck out four Auggies while not walking a batter and allowing only three hits to score the complete-game win for the Oles. Shelley Harris (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS) took the loss for the Auggies, striking out four.

In addition to Roscher's 3-for-4 effort, Rodd went 3-for-3 at the plate for the Oles, and Keimig went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Augsburg returns to action on Monday (4/18) at 5 p.m. with a nonconference doubleheader against North Central (Minn.) at Edor Nelson Field, and returns to MIAC play on Wednesday (4/20) with a 4 p.m. doubleheader at St. Catherine. St. Olaf is back in MIAC action on Wednesday at 4 p.m., with a doubleheader at St. Mary's.
