Women's Swimming 11/3-4/06 -- Augsburg at Hamline, St. Catherine meets
ST. PAUL, Minn. (11/3-4/06) -- Competing in two multi-team meets over the weekend, the Augsburg College women's swimming team claimed two dual-meet victories, topping fellow Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference program St. Mary's University in a quadrangular meet on Friday at Hamline University, and topping the University of Minnesota-Morris in a triangular meet on Saturday at the College of St. Catherine.
In Friday's quadrangular meet at Hamline, Augsburg topped St. Mary's 107-89, while falling 179-44 to host Hamline and 192-38 to Macalester. In Saturday's triangular meet, host St. Catherine topped Augsburg 55-40, while Augsburg beat Minnesota-Morris 59-41.
Augsburg claimed two individual event victories and a relay win in Saturday's meet at St. Catherine.
Stefanie Sanders (Fr., Lafayette, Colo.) won the 50-yard freestyle in 27.82 seconds, while
Kasi Clauson (Sr., Kansas, Okla./Cookson Hills Christian HS) claimed a win in the 100-yard butterfly (1:07.41), while placing second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:28.14).
Clauson and Sanders were also a part of the 200-yard medley relay squad, along with
Melissa Warfield (So., Rogers, Minn./Buffalo HS) and
Liz Wiggen (Fr., Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS), that claimed victory in the event in 1:52.24.
Wiggen had two second-place finishes at the St. Catherine meet, in the 500-yard freestyle (6:13.14) and 1,000-yard freestyle (12:42.68). Warfield had two third-place finishes, in the 100-yard freestyle (1:01.94) and 200-yard freestyle (2:17.69).
Stephanie Storlie (So., Moorhead, Minn.) also placed third twice, in the 500-yard freestyle (6:27.41) and 1,000-yard freestyle (13:10.93).
Rachel Doherty (Fr., St. Paul Park, Minn.) placed third in the 50-yard freestyle (28.60) and Katilyn Stasiewicz (Fr., Sauk Rapids, Minn./St. John's Prep HS) placed third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:15.02).
At Friday's Hamline meet, Clauson led the Auggies with a second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (1:06.66) and fourth-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:17.42). Sanders had a fourth-place finish for the Auggies in the 50-yard freestyle (27.80).
Maia Monke-Lundberg (Fr., Moorhead, Minn.) finished sixth for the Auggies in the 100-yard freesetyle (1:03.14), while Wiggen finished sixth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:11.96).
Augsburg had two relays place third at the Hamline meet. The 200-yard freestyle relay of Wiggen, Monke-Lundberg, Warfield and Sanders placed third in 1:51.34, and the 200-yard medley relay of Wiggen, Clauson, Stasiewicz and Sanders finished third in 2:05.65.
Augsburg competes at the St. Olaf Quadrangular next Saturday (11/11) at 1 p.m. in Northfield. St. Catherine and St. Mary's will also be at the meet.
