KISSIMMEE, Fla. (3/21/06) -- The Augsburg College softball team lost its two contests at the Rebel Spring Games softball tournament on Tuesday at the Osceola County Sports Complex, falling 6-5 to Mt. Vernon Nazarene University (Ohio) in nine innings and 9-2 to Allegheny College (Pa.). Augsburg is now 5-5 on the season.

Mt. Vernon Nazarene took a 3-0 lead after four innings, but Augsburg tied the game in the sixth, keyed on a two-run base hit by Sarah Green (Fr., Winnebago, Minn./Blue Earth Area HS). Both teams scored twice in the eighth inning, but Mt. Vernon Nazarene claimed the win with a run in the ninth. Augsburg had 10 hits in the game, while Mt. Vernon Nazarene had 14 hits.

Green went 2-for-4 in the game, as did Ashley Westerman (So., Bemidji, Minn.) and Jodi Boyd (Sr., Hartley, Iowa/Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn HS). Jacci Mattern (Fr., Lakeville, Minn.) had a double and drove in a run, scoring twice. Jolene Ross (So., Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS) also scored twice.

Pitcher Shelley Harris (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS) struck out eight in the complete-game effort, while walking just one.

Kristin Eyerman struck out eight batters for Mt. Vernon Nazarene, with Karly Clay collecting three hits for the Cougars. Carol Montgomery, Laura Morris and Laura Kot had two hits apiece.

Allegheny used eight hits and took advantage of six Augsburg errors to record the victory in the Auggies' second game of the day. Just two of the nine runs against Augsburg pitcher Green were earned in her 5.2 innings of work. She struck out six while walking three. Kati Tweeten (Jr., Spring Grove, Minn.) pitched in relief.

Augsburg scored its two runs in the first inning, with Mattern and Westerman scoring. Westerman went 2-for-3 for the Auggies, who were limited to five hits in the game. Ross, Mattern and Trista Gundersen (Jr., Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) had the other Auggie hits, with Gundersen contributing a double.

Becca Rich claimed five strikeouts for the victory for the Gators. Rachel Ryan went 3-for-4, and Abby Bodenlos had a double and drove in two runs.

Augsburg returns to action in the Rebel Spring Games on Wednesday (3/22) with games against Colorado College at 10:40 a.m. and Hope (Mich.) at 2:20 p.m.
