ORANGE, Calif. (3/23/07) -- The Augsburg College softball team finished its play at the Chapman Sun West Tournament with two losses at Hart Park, falling 18-2 in five innings to Dana College (Neb.) and 15-4 to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, ranked No. 9 in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III national rankings.

Dana scored 11 runs in the first inning, sending 14 batters to the plate and taking advantage of seven hits and three errors. Dana also had a big fifth inning, scoring seven runs on seven hits, with 12 batters coming to the plate. The game ended after five innings on the NCAA eight-run rule.

Augsburg, which had six hits in the game, scored single runs in the first and third innings. In the first, Whitney Restemayer (Fr., Bemidji, Minn.) hit her second home run in as many days, a solo shot. In the third inning, a double by Kati Tweeten (Sr., Spring Grove, Minn.) brought home Tiffany Magnuson (So., Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy HS). Magnuson went 2-for-3 for the Auggies, adding a double in the fifth inning.

Three pitchers threw for the Auggies in the game against Dana -- starter Jacci Mattern (So., Lakeville, Minn.), Tweeten and Averie Swanson (Fr., St. James, Minn.).

Against Wisconsin-Eau Claire, the Blugolds overcame a 2-0 third-period deficit, scoring all their runs in the final four innings on 17 hits. Augsburg scored single runs in the second and third frames, and added two runs in the fifth. Augsburg had nine hits in the game.

In the second, Trista Gundersen (Sr., Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) singled to drive home Mattern. In the third, Magnuson doubled and scored after stealing third and coming home on a throwing error.

In the fifth, Sarah Green (So., Winnebago, Minn./Blue Earth Area HS) hit a solo homer, her first of the year. Magnuson doubled and came across on a single by Tweeten.

Green started and pitched 5.1 innings, striking out two. Swanson and Tweeten pitched in relief.

Augsburg, now 1-15 on the season, opens Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Wednesday (3/28) with a 4 p.m. doubleheader at Macalester.
