ST. PAUL, Minn. (4/17/07) -- Kayla Webster claimed seven strikeouts in 14 innings of pitching in two games, as her College of St. Catherine softball team rallied twice for a doubleheader sweep of Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference softball doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at St. Catherine. The Wildcats won both games by identical 3-2 scores.

In the first game, Augsburg scored twice in the first inning, but St. Catherine rallied to take the lead in the late innings. RBI doubles by Ashley Westerman (Jr., Bemidji, Minn.) and Jacci Mattern (So., Lakeville, Minn.) drove in the Auggie runs in the first. Angie Johnson hit a solo home run for the Wildcats to lead off the fourth inning, and Kayla Webster hit a two-run homer in the fifth to give St. Catherine the lead.

Sarah Green (So., Winnebago, Minn./Blue Earth Area HS) colleced eight strikeouts without a walk in six innings of pitching for the Auggies, allowing eight hits. Webster struck out one in the first game for the Wildcats. Mattern and Tiffany Magnuson (So., Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy HS) had two hits apiece for Augsburg.

In the second game, St. Catherine rallied late, scoring the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning, as Shannon Bagwill singled and came home on a single by Morgan Kane with two outs.

Augsburg opened the scoring in the second, as Trista Gundersen (Sr., Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) singled and scored on a fielding error. St. Catherine scored twice in the third, as a Johnson double drove home two runs, but Augsburg tied the game in the fifth, as a Westerman double plated Kati Tweeten (Sr., Spring Grove, Minn.). Johnson had three hits for the Wildcats, while Westerman had two hits for the Auggies.

Tweeten started for the Auggies and struck out two in four innings of work, with Green striking out three in relief. Webster collected six strikeouts and did not walk a batter in the second game.

Both teams have MIAC road doubleheaders in Northfield, Minn., on Thursday (4/19) at 4 p.m., as Augsburg plays at Carleton and St. Catherine plays at St. Olaf.
