TUCSON, Ariz. (3/15-20/08) -- The Augsburg College softball team (4-14 overall) went 3-7 in its 10 games at the Tucson Invitational in Tucson, Ariz.

On Saturday, the Auggies opened the tournament with a 2-1 win over Delaware Valley (Pa.) and fell 9-1 in five innings to Eastern Connecticut State. On Sunday, the Auggies scored a 6-3 win over Buena Vista (Iowa) and fell 4-3 to Wisconsin-La Crosse. On Monday, the Auggies dropped a 3-2 decision to Manchester (Ind.), before scoring an 8-7 win over Lakeland (Wis.). On Tuesday, the Auggies fell 7-4 to Wisconsin-Eau Claire and 10-0 in six innings to North Central (Ill.). The Auggies wrapped up the tournament on Thursday with a 4-2 loss to Amherst (Mass.) and a 7-2 loss to Babson (Mass.).

Sarah Mueller (JR, Green Bay, Wis./Southwest HS) had the top week among Auggie hitters in Arizona, hitting .414 (12-of-29) with four RBI, a double and two runs scored. Ashley Westerman (SR, Bemidji, Minn.) hit .344 (11-of-32) with five runs scored, five RBI and two doubles. Jolene Ross (SR, Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS) hit .310 (9-of-29) with two runs scored, and Tiffany Magnuson (JR, Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy HS) hit .303 (10-of-33) with six runs scored, a double and two RBI.

Four pitchers saw action in Arizona, with Magnuson and Jessa Hinz (FY, Richfield, Minn.) making their collegiate debuts in the pitching circle. Magnuson appeared in five games with a 1-0 record, 2.83 earned-run average and six strikeouts, while Hinz went 1-1 in her two appearances. Sarah Green (JR, Winnebago, Minn./Blue Earth Area HS) went 1-3 in her five starts, striking out 19 while walking 11 in 26.0 innings of work.

Augsburg is scheduled to open MIAC play on Saturday (3/29) at 1 p.m., hosting St. Benedict in a doubleheader at Edor Nelson Field.
