Auggies' hot streak continues with sweep at Concordia-Moorhead, 4-0 and 5-4!

MOORHEAD, Minn. (4/13/08) -- Sarah Green (JR, Winnebago, Minn./Blue Earth Area HS) went 5-for-8 at the plate with four RBI, including a solo home run in the second inning of the opening game, as Augsburg College swept host Concordia College-Moorhead in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at the Jake Christiansen Athletic Complex.

Green went 3-for-4 and drove in three of Augsburg's four runs in the first game, adding a two-run single in the fifth inning. She went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the second game. In the pitching circle, Green also claimed eight strikeouts against just two walks in 6.2 innings of work. In the first game, Green struck out five in 4.0 innings of work, allowing just two hits to pick up the win. She also started the second game and pitched 2.2 innings with three strikeouts against two walks.

Augsburg is off to one of its strongest starts to conference play in school history, with a 9-1 league record (13-15 overall). It is the best 10-game start to a conference season for the Auggies since starting 10-0 in 1984 -- its last conference title season (25-7 overall, 16-1 MIAC).

Concordia drops to 3-17 overall, 0-6 in MIAC play.

Tiffany Magnuson (JR, Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy HS) went 3-for-5 at the plate with a double and an RBI in the doubleheader, while also picking up the pitching victory in relief in the second game, with 2.2 innings of relief to close the contest. Jolene Ross (SR, Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS) also had three hits in the doubleheader for the Auggies.

In the second game, Augsburg rallied from a 2-1, third-inning deficit with four runs in the next three innings to claim the victory. Trailing 3-2 after four innings, Augsburg tied the game on an Ashley Westerman (SR, Bemidji, Minn.) RBI grounder in the fifth, then scored two runs in the sixth inning -- an unearned run on an error and on a bases-loaded walk.

Melissa Larsen (JR, Andover, Minn.) pitched in both games for the Auggies -- striking out two in the final three innings of the first game and pitching 1.2 innings of one-run relief in the second game.

Green, Whitney Restemayer (SO, Bemidji, Minn.) and Laura Strandell (FY, Pine Island, Minn.) had two hits each for the Auggies in the second game.

Erin Johnson pitched complete-game efforts in both games for Concordia, striking out five while walking seven. Jamie Odden and Amanda Johnson had two hits apiece for the Cobbers in the second game.

Augsburg will face conference-leader St. Thomas in a MIAC doubleheader on Tuesday (4/15) at 4 p.m. in St. Paul. Concordia will host Carleton on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
