ST. PAUL, Minn. (4/13/08) -- Surrendering just one Augsburg College hit in each game, the No. 5-ranked University of St. Thomas softball team claimed a doubleheader sweep of the Auggies in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at UST's South Field, winning 8-0 in five innings in the opener and claiming a 5-0 triumph in the nightcap.

Maria Bye struck out seven while walking two to earn the victory in the first game, while Marta Radcliffe struck out 16 of the 23 batters she faced, while not walking a batter, for the Tommies (27-3 overall, 12-0 MIAC). The Tommies tied their conference record, previously set in 2005, with their 44th straight conference victory, and their 31st straight win at UST's South Field.

Jennifer Castillo (FY, Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn HS) had the lone hit for the Auggies in the first game, while Jessa Hinz (FY, Richfield, Minn.) had the lone hit for the Auggies in the second game. Augsburg saw its five-game winning streak snapped in falling to 13-17 overall, 9-3 in MIAC play.

Melissa Larsen (JR, Andover, Minn.) started both games for the Auggies, pitching a complete-game effort in the second game, striking out one. She pitched 1.1 innings in the first game, allowing two runs, before being relieved by Sarah Green (JR, Winnebago, Minn./Blue Earth Area HS).

Colleen Owen had two hits for St. Thomas in the first game, with Morgan Betker collecting two RBI on a double. In the second game, Alison Wright and Olivia Graham both had doubles and collected two hits apiece.

Both teams return to MIAC play on Thursday (4/17). Augsburg hosts St. Mary's at 5 p.m., while St. Thomas hosts Concordia-Moorhead at 4 p.m.
