GAME 1 BOX | GAME 2 BOX

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Kylee Persing (FY, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) went 5-for-7 at the plate with two RBI and two runs scored, and Jessa Hinz (SO, Richfield, Minn.) went 4-for-7 with two RBI and four runs scored, leading Augsburg College to its second straight doubleheader sweep, a pair of Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference softball wins at Macalester College on Friday afternoon.

Augsburg (6-22, 4-6 MIAC) won both games over Macalester (5-19 overall, 0-10 MIAC) by identical 10-2 scores, ending both games by the NCAA eight-run rule -- after six innings in the first game and after five innings in the second game.

Ten of the 14 Auggies who saw action in the doubleheader had hits, including Sabrina Siple (FY, Farmington, Minn.), who had two doubles and drove in four runs. Tiffany Magnuson (SR, Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy HS) and Sarah Mueller (SR, Green Bay, Wis./Southwest HS) had three hits and scored three runs each, with Magnuson driving in three runs and adding a double and triple. Jennifer Castillo (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn HS) also had three hits, and Amanda Schwartz (FY, Becker, Minn.) scored three runs.

In the first game, Augsburg fell behind 2-0 and scored all its runs in the final three innings -- two runs in the fourth inning, four in the fifth inning and four in the sixth. Meanwhile, a five-run first inning, with Augsburg sending 10 batters to the plate, gave the Auggies the lead to stay in the second game, and the Auggies added two runs in the fourth and three runs in the fifth to end the game early. Augsburg had season highs of 13 hits in each game.

Sarah Green (SR, Winnebago, Minn./Blue Earth Area HS) relieved starter Schwartz in the second inning of the first game and pitched five innings of scoreless, one-hit relief, striking out two and not walking a batter -- facing just 16 Scots hitters.

In the second game, Melissa Larsen (JR, Andover, Minn.) pitched a complete-game victory for the Auggies, striking out four while walking one and only allowing five hits. Both runs charged against her were unearned.

Augsburg returns to MIAC play on Tuesday (4/14) at 4 p.m., hosting St. Thomas at Edor Nelson Field.
