MINNEAPOLIS -- Allyson Ruedy (SO, Waseca, Minn.) hit a home run for the Augsburg College softball team in the first game, as the Auggies scored a doubleheader split with the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in the opening games of the Auggie Dome Tournament on Friday evening at Edor Nelson Field.

Augsburg (3-1 overall) won the first game 3-1, while Wisconsin-La Crosse (5-1 overall), the No. 15-ranked team in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III national poll, scored a 4-3 win in eight innings in the second game.

Kylee Persing (JR, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) pitched both games for the Auggies, striking out three while walking three and allowing 11 hits.

The Auggies collected 11 hits in the opening-game victory -- two hits each by Ruedy, Brittney Bruzek (SR, Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS) and Bri Dorale (SO, Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS). Jennifer Castillo (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn HS) and Laura Strandell (SR, Pine Island, Minn.) each had doubles for the Auggies in the first game.

Strandell doubled and scored on an RBI single by Persing in the second inning, and Ruedy hit her second collegiate home run in the third inning, giving the Auggies a 2-0 lead.

The Eagles cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the third, as Cheri Petzborn (SO, Middleton, Wis.) singled and scored after an Augsburg fielding error. But Augsburg expanded the lead to 3-1 in the fifth inning, as Dorale singled and scored on an RBI single by Bruzek.

Kelsey Golackson (SR, Cross Plains, Wis./Middleton HS) had two hits for the Eagles. Lauren Beres (SO, New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower HS) struck out seven while not allowing a walk in a complete-game pitching effort.

The second game was a back-and-forth affair. The Auggies struck first in the fourth inning, as Persing and Strandell scored runs on a two-error play. But the Eagles tied the game in the bottom of the fourth, when Natalie Stoll (JR, Eden Prairie, Minn.) hit a two-run homer to left-center.

Augsburg took a 3-2 lead in the top of the sixth, as Jessa Hinz (SR, Richfield, Minn.) singled and scored on an RBI triple by Strandell. But the Eagles tied the game again via the long ball, as Katie Pietrowiak (SR, Germantown, Wis.) hit a solo homer to left-center in the bottom of the sixth.

The game remained tied until the bottom of the eighth inning, when Rachel Weyer (SR, Loyal, Wis.) scored after a throwing error on a sacrifice-bunt attempt by Jenna Ahnen (SR, Sparta, Wis.).

Pertzborn had two hits for the Eagles. Lacey Probst (JR, Menasha, Wis.) struck out three for the Eagles.

The teams return to action with doubleheaders in the Auggie Dome Tournament on Saturday (3/5), as Wisconsin-La Crosse faces Concordia-Moorhead at 1 p.m., and Augsburg faces Luther (Iowa) at 5 p.m.
