SAINT PAUL, Minn.-- Allyson Ruedy (SO, Waseca, Minn.) hit two home runs, and Shayna Crandall (FY, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo HS) went 3-for-4, but the Augsburg College softball team dropped game one of a double header 14-8 to Hamline University Tuesday afternoon. Augsburg held a 11-10 lead in game two before play was suspended due to darkness.
In game one, Augsburg (17-14 overall, 6-7 MIAC) jumped on the scoreboard first, scoring two runs in each of the first two innings. After Hamline (12-13 overall, 6-5 MIAC) scored six runs in the bottom of the second, the Auggies countered with three runs in the top of the third behind Ruedy's first home run of the game. Augsburg was unable to hold on to the lead however, as Hamline added runs in the fourth and sixth frames to pull away.
Brittney Bruzek (SR, Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS) went 2-for-4, and Laura Strandell (SR, Pine Island, Minn.) added her 10th multi-hit game of the season to lead Augsburg at the plate. Strandell is now batting .382 this season, and is slugging a team-best .607.
Jessa Hinz (SR, Richfield, Minn.) and Stephanie Saxe (JR, Stacy, Minn./North Branch HS) each recorded a hit for Augsburg in the game one loss.
In game two, Augsburg again got off to a good start, scoring five in the first, two in the second, and one in the third on a Hinz solo home run to jump out to an early 8-2 lead. After the Pipers answered with a seven run fourth inning to take the lead, Augsburg's Kelsey Rorabeck (SO, Hudson, Wis./Somerset HS) hit a double to deep left center field to score two Augsburg runners.
Play was suspended at the conclusion of the fifth inning with Augsburg leading game two 11-10. The game will be completed on Friday, April 29 at 4 p.m. at Hamline.
Augsburg is scheduled to return to action this Thursday (4/19) against St. Olaf College at Edor Nelson Field.
