Shayna Crandall (FY, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo HS) threw a complete-game shutout in the first game, while
Devon Shaut (SO, Merritt Island, Fla.) threw 6.2 innings of shutout action in the second game, as the Augsburg College softball team scored a doubleheader split with St. Olaf College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Thursday at Edor Nelson Field.
Augsburg (18-15 overall, 7-8 MIAC) won the first game 2-0, while St. Olaf (7-17 overall, 4-6 MIAC) claimed a 5-0 win in nine innings in the second game.
Crandall struck out four while walking six in the first game for the Auggies, while also forcing the Oles to strand two or more runners on base in four of their seven innings. The Oles stranded 12 runners on base in the first game.
Laura Strandell (SR, Pine Island, Minn.) hit her fourth home run of the season for the Auggies, a solo blast to center leading off the sixth inning. The Auggies' other run came in the second inning, as Crandall singled and scored on a sacrifice fly by
Kelsey Rorabeck (SO, Hudson, Wis./Somerset HS).
Bri Dorale (SO, Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS) had two hits for Augsburg, while Jessica Wilson (FY, Burnsville, Minn.) had two hits for St. Olaf. Natalee McNeff (SR, Temecula, Calif./Great Oak HS) pitched a complete game for the Oles, striking out one while walking two.
In the second game, Shaut had her longest pitching outing as an Auggie, allowing just three hits and no runs in 6.2 innings, while striking out one and walking two. Shaut allowed just one hit until the seventh inning, before being relieved by Strandell.
The game remained scoreless until the top of the ninth inning, when the Oles sent 10 batters to the plate, scoring five runs. The big hit of the inning was a pinch-hit, three-run double by Kayla Gronli (JR, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Champlin Park HS).
Katie Truax (SR, Waukesha, Wis./West HS) pitched a complete game for the Oles, striking out three while walking four and allowing seven hits.
