Auggies set two top-10 times

MEET RESULTS

WINONA, Minn. -- Kelsey Hlavac (SO, Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley HS) and Maggie Royce (FY, Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) swam two of the fastest times in school history on Saturday, as the Augsburg College women's swimming team competed at a double-dual meet with host St. Mary's University and Carleton College.

Hlavac recorded the fifth-best time in school history in the 200-yard backstroke, with a 2:34.26, fifth-place finish. The time was a season-best for Hlavac; her 2:31.51 personal-best, set last season, is the second-fastest time in school history. She also recorded an event win with a season-best 6:04.40 in the 500-yard freestyle, and a personal-best 1:13.81 for a sixth-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke.

Royce finished fifth in the 200-yard freestyle with a 2:11.98 time, the seventh-fastest time in the event in school history.

Royce's time was among eight collegiate personal- and season-best times for the Auggies in Saturday's event. Three of those times came in the 500-yard freestyle; in addition to Hlavac's winning time, Samantha Hebzynski (SR, Maple Grove, Minn.) recorded a season-best 6:22.54 time, and Bre Kirch (FY, Waunakee, Wis.) set a personal-best 6:56.98.

Kirch also recorded a personal-best in the 1,650-yard freestyle (24:14.29), cutting almost a minute off her previous best time. She also claimed a 35.08-second time in the 50-yard freestyle. Elizabeth Hilgendorf (FY, Tomahawk, Wis.) recorded a personal-best 1:23.06 in the 100-yard breaststroke, and recorded a 1:01.80 time in the 100-yard freestyle.

Elianna Bier (FY, St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park HS) recorded two seventh-place finishes for the Auggies, in the 200-yard backstroke (2:44.21) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:13.98).

Auggie swimmers competed in two relays. The 200-yard freestyle relay of Royce, Bier, Hlavac and Hilgendorf finished second in 1:55.67, and the 200-yard medley relay of Bier, Hebzynski, Royce and Hilgendorf finished fifth in 2:13.31.

As teams in the double-dual, Carleton claimed a 171-49 win over Augsburg and a 153-94 win over St. Mary's, while St. Mary's scored a 151-72 win over the Auggies.

Augsburg returns to action on Friday (1/27) at 6 p.m. at the Macalester/St. Catherine Triangular.
