Novak, Hlavac lead Auggie swimmers

MEET RESULTS

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Abby Novak (JR, Aurora, Minn./Mesabi East HS) and Kelsey Hlavac (SO, Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley HS) led the Augsburg College women's swimming team with season-best times at a double-dual meet with Macalester College at St. Catherine University's Butler Center pool on Friday evening.

Novak claimed a conference meet-qualifying time in the 100-yard backsroke in a season- and team-best 1:11.62, placing seventh, while also recording a 33.25-second 50-yard backstroke split in the 200-yard medley relay -- the eighth-fastest opening leg in school history. She also claimed a season-best relay split of 28.12 seconds as part of the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Hlavac set a season-best 2:14.99 time to place eighth for the Auggies in the 200-yard freestyle. Head coach Kasi Clauson Lange noted that Hlavac rallied in the final dozen yards to out-touch her opponent in her heat by .01 of a second.

"Overall, we swam great, right where we are supposed to be," Clauson Lange said. "It's really fun to watch all the pieces come together."

Elianna Bier (FY, St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park HS) recorded a season-best with a 1:12.48, 10th-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke. Elizabeth Hilgendorf (FY, Tomahawk, Wis.) set a season-best with a 1:22.65, eighth-place finish in the 100-yard breastroke.

Maggie Royce (FY, Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) had the best individual finish for the Auggies, with a 5:57.24, second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle. She also had a sixth-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (1:14.62).

As a team, St. Catherine defeated Augsburg 162-29 and Macalester defeated Augsburg 169-28. St. Catherine defeated Macalester 113-102.

Augsburg competes on Saturday (1/28) at 1 p.m. at the St. Catherine Invitational.
