ROSEVILLE, Minn.--
Kylee Persing (SR, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) pitched a complete-game, two-hit shutout to lead the Augsburg College softball team to a 9-0 win in the second game of a non-conference double-header against Northwestern College Tuesday afternoon. Augsburg won game one of the twin bill 5-2 and earned a two-game sweep over the Eagles (3-10 overall).
Persing struck out three and did not walk a batter in five innings of work to earn her fifth win of the season for Augsburg (7-11 overall). In addition to her performance in the pitching circle, Persing went 3-for-5 at the plate with two runs scored, an RBI, and a stolen base for the Auggies.
Lindsay Helbach (FY, Amherst, Wis.) went 3-for-7 at the plate with a homerun, three RBI, a steal and a run scored in the doubleheader for the Auggies, while teammate
Allyson Ruedy (JR, Waseca, Minn.) also went 3-for-7, recording a double, four RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base. Helbach's home run is her fourth of the season, while her three RBI give her a team-high 21 on the season.
In the first game, Augsburg scored runs in the third and fourth innings to overcome an early deficit and tie the score at 2-2. After holding Northwestern scoreless for the rest of the game, the Auggies were able to push a run across in the top of the sixth, before adding two insurance runs an inning later to hold onto the win.
Amanda Eaton (SO, White Bear Lake, Minn.) struck out five and did not issue a walk, while scattering eight hits in a complete game effort to earn her first win of the season.
The Auggies used a five-run second inning to jump out to an early lead in game two. Augsburg would add two more in the third, and two more in the fourth to cruise to a 9-0 win and sweep of the two game series.
Bri Dorale (JR, Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS) went 2-for-7 at the plate a triple, two RBI, two runs, and a walk, while teammate
Emily Smith (SO, Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS) went 3-for-6 with two runs scored.
Brittany Hecker (SO, Saint Paul, Minn./Como Park HS) went 2-for-6 with two doubles, 3 RBI and a runs scored for Augsburg in the doubleheader.
Today's doubleheader marked the end of the non-conference portion of the season for the Auggies, who will open up conference play with a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon on the road against Saint Mary's University in Winona.
