Amanda Eaton (SO, White Bear Lake, Minn.) pitched a complete-game shutout to to lead the Augsburg College softball team to a 5-0 win in game one of a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader over St. Olaf College on Wednesday afternoon at Edor Nelson Field. Augsburg dropped game two of the twinbill by a score of 4-2.
Eaton struck out six and walked two while scattering four hits in seven innings of work to earn her fourth win and seventh complete game of the season in the first game. Eaton started the second game for Augsburg (12-16 overall, 5-5 MIAC), as she pitched four innings and struck out six while allowing only two hits and one earned run.
The Auggies struck first in the first game, scoring two runs in the third and two more in the fifth to give Eaton more than enough support against St. Olaf (12-16 overall, 4-6 MIAC).
Allyson Ruedy (JR, Waseca, Minn.) went 3-for-6 with a triple and run scored to lead the Auggies at the plate in the doubleheader, while teammate
Emily Smith (SO, Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS) went 3-for-6, including a three-hit performance in game one with an RBI and a run scored. Ruedy is now batting a team-leading .381 on the season, while her 59 total bases are also a team best.
Bri Dorale (JR, Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS) went 3-for-8 with a double, stolen base and run scored for the Auggies against St. Olaf. Dorale is now a perfect 8-for-8 on stolen-base attempts during the season.
Kelsey Rorabeck (Hudson, Wis./Somerset HS) went 2-for-3 with a double, triple and two runs scored to lead the Auggies at the plate in the first game. Rorabeck's triple was her third of the season, which is tied for a team high with Dorale.
Mary Hildestad (JR, White Bear Lake, Minn.) and
Kylee Persing (SR, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka) each recorded a base hit for Augsburg in the doubleheader.
Augsburg received strong pitching performances from both Eaton and Persing in the second game, but could not overcome a solid pitching performance from the Oles' Jessica Green (SO, Scottsdale, Ariz./Horizon HS) who navigated through seven innings of work while allowing nine hits and two earned runs.
Augsburg will return to action this Saturday (4/14) when they travel to Arden Hills, Minn. to take on the Bethel Royals. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
