ARDEN HILLS, Minn. -- The Augsburg College softball team claimed a split of a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader at Bethel University on Saturday, winning the first game 4-2 while losing the second game 4-3 in nine innings.
Amanda Eaton earned the win for Augsburg (13-17 overall, 6-6 MIAC) in game one, as she pitched a complete game, while allowing one earned run and four hits to go along with five strikeouts. Eaton lowered her conference ERA to 1.62 runs per game, which is currently ranked as the second lowest in the MIAC this season.
Bri Dorale (JR, Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS) went 4-for-9 with four singles and a stolen base, while teammate
Kylee Persing (SR, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) went 4-for-9 with a double and two runs scored to lead the Augsburg offensive attack.
After falling behind early in game one, the Auggies rallied with a run in the 2nd inning to tie the score at 1-1. Augsburg would add runs in the 4th, 5th and 7th to pull away and win game one 4-2.
The Auggies fell behind early in game two again, but were able to tie the game in the top of the 6th inning after consecutive doubles from Persing and
Allyson Ruedy (JR, Waseca, Minn.) Both teams were held scoreless until the top of the 9th when
Bekka Kelly (FY, Columbia Heights, Minn.) hit her fourth double of the season to drive in
Kelsey Rorabeck and
Emily Smith and take a two run lead. The Royals (10-20 overall, 4-8 MIAC) responded with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning however to salvage a split of the two game series between the teams.
Ruedy went 3-for-7 with a double, walk and RBI on the day, while Smith recorded two hits and a run scored.
The Auggies return to action tomorrow (4/15) as they host atwo game series against conference foe Concordia College. Game one is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field.
