Auggies drop two to UW-La Crosse

BOXSCORE 1 | BOXSCORE 2 MINNEAPOLIS-- Allyson Ruedy (SR, Waseca, Minn.) hit a three-run home run in game two, but the Augsburg College softball team fell in both games of a double header to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse at the Auggie Dome Tournament Friday evening. Augsburg dropped game one 5-0 to the Eagles before falling by a score of 5-4 in game two.

The Auggies (1-3 overall) took the early lead in game two behind Ruedy's first home run of the season in the bottom of the first inning. Ruedy's blast, which came with one out in the inning, followed a Bri Dorale (SR, Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS) single and a walk to Kelsey Rorabeck (SR, Hudson, Wis./Somerset HS). Wisconsin-La Crosse began to chip away at the Augsburg lead with a run in the second followed by two more in the fifth to pull within 4-3. After the Auggies stranded two runners on in the bottom of the fifth, the Eagles (6-2 overall) took the lead for good with two more runs in the top of the seventh to pull out the come-from-behind victory.

Amanda Eaton (SO, White Bear Lake, Minn.) was the pitcher of record for Augsburg in game two, as she struck out three while not allowing a walk in seven innings. Only two of the Wisconsin-La Crosse runs were charged to Eaton, as the Eagles took advantage of four Augsburg errors in the game.

Ruedy went 3-for-5 on the day, while adding three runs batted in, two walks and a run scored. Dorale went 4-for-6 at the plate for the Auggies, with a run scored and two stolen bases.

Emily Smith (JR, Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS) and Lindsay Helbach (SO, Amherst, Wis.) added two hits each for Augsburg, while Rorabeck added an RBI single and a run scored.

Lauren Berens (SR, New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower HS) was the pitcher of record in both games for Wisconsin-La Crosse, as she tossed nine shutout innings while striking out three and allowing one walk and six hits. Alie Meyer (JR, Wausau, Wis./West HS) went 3-for-3 at the plate with a two singles and a home run to lead the Eagle offensive attack.

Augsburg pitcher Olivia Boerschinger (SR, Neenah, Wis.), making her second start as an Auggie, pitched a complete-game effort, striking out one while walking one batter in game one.

The Eagles scored three runs in the third inning and plated single runs in the fourth and fifth to close out the scoring in game one.

Wisconsin-La Crosse is set to face Northwestern College-Roseville in a double-header tomorrow morning starting at 10 a.m., before the Auggies battle Wartburg College in a double header to close out the tournament. The Augsburg-Wartburg game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. tomorrow.
