Bri Dorale (SR, Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS) and
Allyson Ruedy (SR, Waseca, Minn.) combined for 10 hits and seven runs scored to lead the the Augsburg College softball team to its first sweep of the season as the Auggies defeated Wartburg College on day two of the Auggie Dome Tournament Saturday afternoon.
Augsburg (3-3 overall) won game one of the twinbill 7-3, and earned a two-game sweep of Wartburg (1-3 overall) by winning game two by a score of 8-1. The Auggies have now won the last four meetings between the two schools dating back to last season.
Augsburg pounded out a total of 25 hits in the double header, including five each from Dorale and Ruedy. Dorale went 5-for-6 from the plate with two walks and two runs scored while driving in two and stealing two bases. The senior outfielder also became just the ninth Augsburg player in school history to record two triples in a single game, as she tripled in her first two at bats during game one Saturday. The last Augsburg player to triple twice in the same game was Jennifer Castillo '10, who accomplished the feat against Carleton during the 2010 season.
Ruedy added five hits of her own on the day, as she went 5-for-7 from the plate with three RBI's and five runs scored. An All-Conference and All-Region selection a season ago, Ruedy currently leads the team in runs batted in (7) and ranks second on the team in batting average (.500) this season.
The Auggies fell behind early in game one, but rallied to score a run in the bottom of the third, before adding four more in the bottom of the fourth. The runs were more than enough for Augsburg starting pitcher
Amanda Eaton (SO, White Bear Lake, Minn.), who struck out five and walked one in five innings of work to pick up her first win of the season.
Devon Shaut (JR, Merritt Island, Fla.) pitched two innings of scoreless releif to earn her first save of the season.
The Auggies struck early in the second game, as they scored three runs in the first and added three more in the second to pull away from the Knights early. Augsburg pitcher
Olivia Boerschinger (JR, Neenah, Wis.) worked three innings while striking out three and walking one to earn the win for Augsburg.
Lauren Hurley (FY, Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS) went 3-for-6 with three RBI's and a run scored, while
Sarah Buckner (Duluth, Minn./East HS) went 3-for-6 with two RBI's and a run scored. Three Auggies recorded two hits on the day, including
Kelsey Rorabeck (SR, Hudson, Wis./Somerset HS),
Mary Hildestad (SR, White Bear Lake, Minn.) and
Bekka Kelly (SO, Columbia Heights, Minn.).
Augsburg returns to action Thursday (3/7) when they face Wisconsin-River Falls in a double-header at the Vadnais Heights Sports Center. The first pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
